    $\begingroup$ Thank you for making the words 'Dirichlet's principle' into a link. I always thought this term referred to the pigeon hole principle (Dirichletschen Schubfachprinzip) which would make the rest of the post quite puzzling. $\endgroup$ Commented Jun 25, 2017 at 19:50
