| Sep 4, 2018 at 16:15 | comment | added | Matt Cloudy-grid | Combining that with other people's research, my guesses are: amazon.com/Paul-Johnson-History-Jews-Hardcover/dp/B00LNB5HAS , amazon.com/Mark-Twain-Four-Complete-Novels/dp/051718978X , an unknown edition of Lewis Carroll's Through the Looking-Glass, and What Alice Found There, books.google.hu/… , books.google.hu/… | |
| Sep 4, 2018 at 15:55 | comment | added | Matt Cloudy-grid | I recognized the bottom book as David Macaulay's The way things work. Can read spine of rightmost as "Collected works / Ambrose Bierce", and I saw evidence that such a book exists. Second from the right with girl holding a cat may be an edition of Lewis Carroll's Through the Looking-Glass, and What Alice Found There. Second from left must be Mark Twain, title ending "The Adventures of {Huckleberry Finn or Tom Sawyer}, The Prince and the Pauper, A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court and other stories", must be amazon.com/Mark-Twain-Four-Complete-Novels/dp/051718978X . | |
| Feb 2, 2018 at 16:19 | comment | added | hat | I agree with @ShadowtheHedgehogWizard that it does not work for this competition, for the simple reason that it cannot be made into a Winterbash hat. It would be kind of hard to see it on someone's avatar. | |
| Dec 22, 2017 at 21:54 | comment | added | Russell McMahon | @ShadowWizard Self criticism sessions will start on January 3rd, 0800 NKST. PLEASE do not be late, in order not to be. | |
| Dec 20, 2017 at 22:23 | comment | added | msh210 | @Kendra, re "How are the kids going to create this one, just sit there and stare at a table until they think it's done?": no, the same way I did. | |
| Dec 19, 2017 at 3:50 | comment | added | msh210 | Yeah, I thought the one with the girl would be hardest. I'm making it 100, instead of 50, if someone comes up with the whole list by the end of the current hatdash. | |
| Dec 19, 2017 at 1:42 | comment | added | JMY1000 | @Mithrandir Same. The Way Things Work by David Macaulay and Neil Ardley, A History of the Jews by Paul Johnson, Four Complete Novels by Mark Twain, and The Collected Writings of Ambrose Bierce? | |
| Dec 18, 2017 at 22:36 | comment | added | user152859 | @Kendra yeah.... well since it's now with positive score only SE staff can really judge and deem it inappropriate for the contest by deleting it. | |
| Dec 18, 2017 at 22:28 | comment | added | Kendra | @ShadowWizard The "joke" is that the hat... Doesn't exist. I'm with you on this one, downvote also staying as this isn't even a hat. How are the kids going to create this one, just sit there and stare at a table until they think it's done? | |

| Dec 18, 2017 at 17:45 | comment | added | user152859 | @CD001 took another read on this "hat". No idea what it is, so downvote stays as "no idea what this thing is, and it is not funny. (For me)" | |
| Dec 18, 2017 at 16:46 | comment | added | CD001 | @ShadowWizard ... read the title and look again... it kinda is. | |
| Dec 18, 2017 at 16:42 | comment | added | user152859 | Ok. But this is not a hat. | |
| Dec 18, 2017 at 16:39 | comment | added | msh210 | @ShadowWizard, I took that picture. It has my own, real books in it. I didn't take it from the Internet. | |
| Dec 18, 2017 at 14:52 | comment | added | user152859 | The whole point of this event is creating our own real life "hats", not find something on the internet | |
| Dec 18, 2017 at 11:20 | comment | added | Mithical | ...aghhh. I've managed to identify 4 of them, but not the one with the girl on the cover. | |
| Dec 18, 2017 at 2:30 | comment | added | iBug says Reinstate Monica | I managed to work out 3 of them, 1 partially, the last one unknown. | |

| Dec 18, 2017 at 0:23 | comment | added | msh210 | Just for kicks: The first person to identify all five books in my photo in a single comment on this post will receive a 50-rep-point bounty from me if he or she has any answers that (a) I have the technical ability to post such a bounty on and (b) I don't find offensive. (The latter clause is unlikely to be triggered; I added it in just in case.) I'm the sole arbiter of who wins that challenge; terms and conditions apply; see store for details. | |
