May 3, 2018 at 0:34 comment added user1306322 The thing to know about the lack of moderation tools in chat is only moderators can delete other users' messages. Room owners can only move messages to other rooms (usually "trash" or similar) but someone may still go there and find it, flag and the user would get suspended, which is dumb. Basically we have to have moderators online at all times for the complete self-moderation to work, which is not realistic. So we'll have to ask the chat developers to give room owners the required tools, since they're in chat most of the time, unlike mods.
May 1, 2018 at 21:49 comment added Cascabel Hm, I would note that the criteria for shutting a room down aren't sudden or single-strike. For example, in order to conclude that people permit or encourage offensive things, it takes time to see multiple examples of it and conclude that it's a pattern. It's definitely totally normal for there to be warnings, too, I've seen plenty of that - and if anything this announcement should make mods more likely to warn folks before it gets too bad.
