While I like the idea of letting the OP hide or merge (or otherwise define the sorting/visibility) of answers, I think you are neglecting the lemming mentality we seem to see with new questions and their respective answers. The OP should not have to actively manage posts in thread for the first day

Clarify meaning without changing it
Add related resources or links
Always respect the author’s intent
Don’t use edits to reply to the author

create code fences with backticks ` or tildes ~

for linebreak add 2 spaces at end

indent code by 4 spaces
backtick escapes `like _so_`
