I'm not sure when this started, but it appears to be only for new answers that you cannot see the datetimes and authors.

"but it appears to be only for new answers" -- FWIW this bug affected all answers, not only new answers. Commented Oct 17, 2025 at 16:22
  • @adabsurdum Right. Apparently all of the (small number of) older questions I spot checked had been edited since the initial answer and therefore weren't missing the widget, which is why it didn't appear to affect older questions. (Though it turns out that info was also being displayed incorrectly.) Commented Oct 17, 2025 at 21:36

We were missing a ! in the condition that determines whether or not author information should show for answers. Whoops!

Thanks for the report!

I feel this raises more questions than it answers. Why does it need a condition, why was it changed, how did it pass testing (or is development done in production), and why didn't it show for some but did for other answers to the same question? Commented Oct 14, 2025 at 22:54

@user4157124 We reuse the same control for answer-like posts (like replies to code challenges), and there are different experiences for all instances. It was changed because we're still working on those other post types. It passed testing because we didn't have a test for whether or not the answer author widget was visible, but we'll be more careful in the future with regression testing. It never showed for any answer, you just saw the most recent edit author's avatar and username in place of the answerer's (see meta.stackexchange.com/a/413205). Commented Oct 14, 2025 at 23:10
