Not sure about the US, but in some countries, a fiduciary, even if doing a pretty honest job, is a really expensive service. One should have very clear information on how and how much this person is being paid and if he/she takes any bonuses from some investment broker.Mefitico– Mefitico2019-04-08 17:40:54 +00:00Commented Apr 8, 2019 at 17:40

5@Mefitico You raise a good point. However, the fiduciary would likely be less expensive that someone who churns stock or puts them into products that don't fit. Which is also (not by coincidence) why a fiduciary can charge a higher rate/amount.J. Chris Compton– J. Chris Compton2019-04-08 17:46:54 +00:00Commented Apr 8, 2019 at 17:46

@Joshua Good point. I didn't think about T-Bills because of the parents current age and the fact that one is in poor health, but I guess most TBills are redeemable early. The lack of state income tax on proceeds (often high in the NE) may be an additional benefit.J. Chris Compton– J. Chris Compton2019-04-09 15:31:33 +00:00Commented Apr 9, 2019 at 15:31

@J.ChrisCompton: T Bills mature in 6 months so I didn't think about selling early either.Joshua– Joshua2019-04-09 15:32:17 +00:00Commented Apr 9, 2019 at 15:32

How to Tag
A tag is a keyword or label that categorizes your question with other, similar questions. Choose one or more (up to 5) tags that will help answerers to find and interpret your question.
- complete the sentence: my question is about...
- use tags that describe things or concepts that are essential, not incidental to your question
- favor using existing popular tags
- read the descriptions that appear below the tag
If your question is primarily about a topic for which you can't find a tag:
- combine multiple words into single-words with hyphens (e.g. united-states), up to a maximum of 35 characters
- creating new tags is a privilege; if you can't yet create a tag you need, then post this question without it, then ask the community to create it for you
