    I fail to see how this confirms that this is what Spielberg had in mind. Neither of the people mentioned were involved in the making of E.T. the Extra-terrestrial Commented yesterday
  • @Valorum I see this answer as speaking to a common practice of abbreviating "extraterrestrial" as "E.T." I think the asker is in error in assuming that a two letter abbreviation is necessarily drawn from a two-word phrase. Commented 5 hours ago
  • @ToddWilcox - It's also a common abbreviation for Eastern Time :-) Airily waving at a dictionary doesn't answer the question asked, which is "What does E.T. mean in E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial?". It's not called 'E.T. the E.T." Commented 5 hours ago
