How can food systems help close protein and nutrition gaps while responding to climate and sustainability challenges? In many low- and middle-income countries, animal-sourced foods, including aquatic foods play an important role in healthy diets, livelihoods and food security but access remains uneven. A new WorldFish report explores the future role of terrestrial animal-sourced foods and aquatic foods in bridging protein and nutrition gaps, exploring why food system transitions need to consider both environmental sustainability and access to adequate, nutrient-dense diets. Perihal kami
WorldFish is an international, nonprofit research and innovation institution that creates, advances and translates scientific research on aquatic food systems into scalable solutions with transformational impact on human well-being and the environment. Its mission is focused on SDG 2: Zero Hunger but pays special attention to SDG 14: Life Below Water, leveraging both of these goals to score progress on other multiple SDGs. Research explores the potential of aquatic food systems as an important source of food and their role in the global transformation of food systems toward healthier and sustainable diets in the face of climate crisis. For over 50 years, WorldFish has firmly established itself as a global leader in research and innovation in sustainable and equitable aquatic food systems. Its work has enhanced the lives of millions of low- and middle-income people who depend on aquatic food systems for food, nutrition, livelihoods and overall well-being. Supported by a diverse network funders and investors aligned to shared goals, it has a global presence in 20 countries across Africa, Asia and the Pacific with 460 staff of 30 nationalities, deployed where the greatest sustainable development challenges can be addressed. WorldFish is part of One CGIAR, the world’s largest agricultural innovation network, whose mission is to “end hunger by 2030 through science to transform food, land and water systems under threat of climate change.” WorldFish is committed to promoting a work environment where diversity and inclusion is valued and we seek to have gender balance in the organization. We aim to also seek balance across other diversity dimensions. People in WorldFish are treated equally irrespective of gender, ethnicity/race, national or social origin, disability, religion, political affiliation, age, family size, marital status or any other form of personal identity.

🌊 What does a resilient coastal livelihood look like when people and nature depend on the same waters? In Semporna, Sabah, seaweed farming is more than a source of income. For Bajau Laut families, it is part of a way of life and helps support food, education and other household needs. But farmers are navigating multiple pressures from fluctuating seaweed prices and changing weather to sea turtle grazing that can damage crops. Finding solutions means looking beyond production alone. Farmers need practical and affordable ways to protect their livelihoods while supporting marine conservation. A new WorldFish story explores what it takes to build coastal livelihoods that are resilient, inclusive and positive for both people and nature. 🤝How can Kenya turn the potential of its blue economy into practical action that benefits people and aquatic food systems? Strong collaboration is part of the answer. The Government of Kenya and WorldFish have taken an important step by establishing technical working groups to operationalize their Memorandum of Understanding and shape a unified strategy for fisheries and aquaculture. The groups will focus on fish seed quality, feed and nutrition, fish health, sustainable fisheries management and cross-cutting priorities. Bringing together government institutions like the @State Department for Fisheries and the Blue Economy and key government institutions including Kenya Marine and Fisheries Research Institute (KMFRI) OFFICIAL, and kenya fisheries service kefs, the groups will identify priorities, build on existing initiatives, address gaps and develop practical workplans for action. 🤖 Will AI make Africa’s blue economy more inclusive? AI is creating new opportunities for fisheries and aquaculture, from early-warning systems to better-informed decisions. But greater efficiency doesn’t automatically mean greater inclusion. In her latest blog, Lucy Njogu explores three important questions: Who benefits from AI? Whose realities are reflected in the data? And who gets to shape the technology? Read how access, representation and meaningful participation can help ensure AI works for the people at the heart of aquatic food systems. 🔗 Read the blog: https://lnkd.in/eWRM6NZU #WorldFish #ArtificialIntelligence #BlueEconomy #AquaticFoodSystems #SocialInclusion
