🐟 Pangasius (Basa) farming faces a market reality in Nigeria. Some Nigerian Pangasius farmers are stopping production after struggling to find consistent buyers for their harvest. 📉 The fish can grow faster than catfish and may have a lower feed conversion ratio, potentially offering production-cost advantages. But farmers say market demand, pricing and access to buyers remain major challenges. 💡 The lesson for fish farmers: understand your market and secure demand before stocking your ponds. 🔗 Read the full story via link in bio. #Pangasius #BasaFish #FishFarming #Aquaculture #AgricultureNigeria #Agribusiness #Catfish #NigeriaAgriculture #FishFarmers

🌽 Can sweet corn become a profitable crop for Nigerian farmers? Sweet corn offers an opportunity for young agripreneurs looking to diversify beyond conventional maize, but growing it successfully requires more than planting and waiting for harvest. The crop can be ready in about 65–70 days, with potential yields varying widely depending on seed variety, irrigation and farm management. However, farmers also face relatively expensive hybrid seeds, pest-management costs and the challenge of selling a highly perishable crop within a short window. One of the biggest lessons is simple: find your market before you plant. Supermarkets, hotels, restaurants, food businesses, processors, roadside sellers and open-market traders can provide potential outlets, but each has different requirements and purchasing capacity. So, before planting, farmers should establish: 🌽 Who will buy 🌽 How much they need 🌽 Preferred cob size and quality 🌽 Delivery schedules 🌽 Expected price 🌽 Alternative outlets if the main buyer cannot take the harvest Our latest guide breaks down the cost of starting sweet corn farming, potential yields and returns, pest-management considerations, and practical ways to find buyers before harvest. 👉 Read the full guide via the link in bio. #SweetCorn #AgricultureNigeria #FarmingNigeria #Agribusiness #YoungFarmers #Agripreneur #Maize #NigeriaAgriculture

🌍🌾 Climate change is becoming a growing threat to farmers and vulnerable communities across West Africa. Experts at the Second Extraordinary Session of the ECOWAS-CEDEAO Parliament in Ghana highlighted how rising temperatures, drought, unpredictable rainfall, and flooding are affecting livelihoods, infrastructure, and food security across the region. Farmers, low-income households, coastal communities, and displaced populations were identified as particularly exposed to climate risks. 🌾🌡️🌧️ The experts called for: 🔹 Stronger climate adaptation measures 🔹 Better early-warning systems 🔹 Climate-risk mapping and flood-proof planning 🔹 Greater sharing of climate data and expertise 🔹 Improved access to climate finance 🔹 Stronger coordination between ECOWAS and member states They also stressed that climate risks cross national borders, making regional cooperation essential for protecting agriculture, water resources, ecosystems, and vulnerable communities. For West African agriculture, adapting to changing weather patterns is increasingly tied to protecting food production and rural livelihoods. 🌱🤝🌍 #ClimateChange #WestAfrica #ECOWAS #Agriculture #ClimateSmartAgriculture #FoodSecurity #Farmers #ClimateAdaptation #Agribusiness #Sustainability

🌾💰 NADF is working to widen the financing options available to Nigerian farmers and agribusinesses. National Agricultural Development Fund has begun validating a proposed Non-Interest Finance Framework and Guidelines, designed to provide structured, ethical, and asset-backed financing options across the agricultural value chain. The framework is expected to cover areas including: 🔹 Financing structures 🔹 Risk management 🔹 Governance and compliance 🔹 Shari’ah considerations 🔹 Assessment, approval, and monitoring of interventions For farmers and businesses that avoid conventional interest-based loans, the framework could provide another formal route to accessing agricultural finance. 🌱💳 The move also forms part of NADF’s broader effort to attract more private and institutional capital into agriculture, following its blended finance initiative launched earlier this year. With Nigeria’s agricultural sector facing significant financing needs, expanding the range of funding models could help bring more capital into farming and agribusiness. 📈🌾 #Agriculture #NigeriaAgriculture #AgriculturalFinance #Agribusiness #NADF #FarmFinance #FoodSecurity #AgFinancing #Nigeria #AgricultureFunding

🍌 Nigeria grows a lot of bananas—but exports relatively little. FAO data shows Nigeria produced an estimated 6.69 million tonnes of dessert bananas annually between 2020 and 2024, making it West Africa’s largest producer. Yet countries with much smaller production volumes have built stronger export industries. 🇨🇮 Côte d’Ivoire leads Africa in banana exports, while 🇬🇭 Ghana ranks second in West Africa. So, what’s the gap? 🤔 Nigeria’s banana production is largely driven by smallholder farmers, while export-oriented industries require more than high production volumes. Commercial-scale coordination, quality standards, packaging, cold-chain logistics, storage, and reliable access to international buyers are all important pieces of the export puzzle. 📦🚛🌍 The numbers show Nigeria has the production base. The bigger challenge is turning that scale into a competitive export value chain. 📈🍌 #Agriculture #NigeriaAgriculture #BananaFarming #Agribusiness #FoodExports #AfriAgriculture #FAO #NigeriaExports

📉 Nigeria’s food inflation slowed — but food is still getting more expensive. 🛒 Nigeria’s food inflation rate fell to 19.57% year-on-year in August 2026, down from 20.31% in July, according to the NBS. More notably, monthly food inflation dropped sharply from 5.56% in July to 1.02% in August. 📊 But there’s an important distinction: slower inflation does not mean cheaper food. It means food prices are increasing at a slower rate. ⚠️ For households already spending a large share of their income on food, prices remain a major pressure on purchasing power. 💰🏠 The national figure also masks wide differences across states. Adamawa (38.85%), Zamfara (37.96%) and Bayelsa (36.20%) recorded the highest year-on-year food inflation rates, while some states recorded declines. 🌾 The bigger picture? Nigeria may be seeing a moderation in food price increases, but meaningful relief for households will depend on whether food supply, production, transportation, storage and distribution costs improve enough to stabilise prices. 👉 Read the full story via the link in bio. #Nigeria #FoodInflation #FoodPrices #FoodSecurity #Agriculture #CostOfLiving #NBS #NigerianFarmers

🌾 Nigeria’s agricultural challenge may be less about more land—and more about getting more from the land already being farmed. Nigeria produces large volumes of crops such as maize and sorghum, but its yields remain below those of leading producers. For example, Nigeria harvested about 5.2 million hectares of maize in 2025/26, producing an estimated 11.7 million tonnes. The large, harvested area highlights the productivity gap: higher production does not necessarily mean farmers are producing more per hectare. Closing that gap will require more than simply bringing additional land under cultivation. Farmers need better seeds, improved agronomic practices, affordable inputs, reliable irrigation, stronger extension services, appropriate mechanisation, rural infrastructure and better access to finance and markets. Higher productivity could allow Nigeria to produce more food from existing farmland while creating larger surpluses for processing and exports. 📲 Read the full analysis via the link in bio. #NigeriaAgriculture #AgriculturalProductivity #NigerianFarmers #FoodSecurity #FoodProduction #Agriculture #Agribusiness #Farmers #FoodImports

🌾💰 ₦61bn in agricultural financing reached over 101,000 Nigerian farmers and agribusinesses. The Germany-funded GP AgFin Nigeria project facilitated about €53.9 million in agricultural financing between 2018 and 2026, supporting farmers and businesses across six value chains and 10 states. The project also developed and piloted 22 agricultural financial products, with 19 integrated into partner financial institutions for continued use beyond the project. More than 21,000 farmers and agribusiness managers also received financial literacy training, with women accounting for more than half of the participants and young people making up almost 40%. As the project approaches its October 2026 conclusion, stakeholders are calling for agricultural finance to focus not only on how much credit is disbursed, but on whether it improves productivity, incomes and food security. 📲 Read the full story via the link in bio. #Agriculture #AgriculturalFinance #NigerianFarmers #Agribusiness #FoodSecurity #GIZ #GPAgFin #NigeriaAgriculture #Farmers
