You see what he wants you to see, this isn't the first time he's been a reality TV star. Those he views as his opponents underestimating him is exactly what he wants right now. But keep up the ad hominem attacks on him, it solves all the problems, and is definitely constructive.

Or to 2., or info on belt-and-road, something showing the takeover of African properties via debt traps, etc. +1, but think it can be better.
| Jun 1, 2020 at 18:07 | comment | added | Gensys LTD | Opinion: I would argue that it's not about making a coalition; rather it's pushing various countries who did, do or plan on doing business with China to assess their position and act accordingly. As for other US presidents - they were not in that position so we can't really say what they would do or if they would do it better or worse. | |

My take on it is that hurting the WHO, at this time, for what seems to be blatantly partisan reasons is precisely the kind of activity that will make Western-aligned countries, turn away from US leadership and be unwilling to join a coalition. So, this action does not merely clarify other countries' positions, it modifies them, making it less likely countries will unite to contain China. It's a mistake Obama, or Bush, would not have made.

This being a controversial proclamation adds to the value of such statements because it further polarizes the available responses giving much clearer information about public stances of various allies/opponents.

This maneuver is counterproductive in that sense, as most of the world sees plainly that's it's America First, or rather Trump First, that drives this, not any desire for justice and respect amongst nations.
| May 31, 2020 at 18:47 | comment | added | Italian Philosopher | where US tries to look for, support, define and test its allies in a fight against imperialist China. I am pretty sure none of the allies are particularly impressed with attacking the WHO, not China, at this particular point in time. So, as a communal containment policy, it achieves very little, quite the opposite. China put itself in a corner, basically even for the reasons outlines in Trump's 4 page letter, but the US is painting itself as the bad guy by cutting off the WHO. I don't believe even Trump doesn't realize that, so containment's just not the primary goal. | |
