AngelsWay 🔷 mafia represents the group of Portuguese founders building early-stage technology startups backed by AngelsWay fund. These founders are pursuing global markets from the beginning, turning early validation into execution and scale. Each team reflects a commitment to building products with international relevance, supported by the knowledge and involvement of our 436 LPs. This network forms a shared platform where founders gain access to capital, expertise, and a community aligned with long-term company building. The portfolio demonstrates how early conviction combined with collective support accelerates progress and raises the bar for what emerging Portuguese teams can achieve. #vc #venturecapital #startups

One common request that I get from fellow founders and CEOs is to explain how we set up the concept of a CEO team to increase our leverage and bandwidth, and why I think that Sword's CEO team created at least $1 billion in value for us in the last five years. In this manual I go into the details on how we structure it, the clear ROI of such a team, but also some nuances in terms of how to implement it and how to think about it. Here’s the TL;DR version on it if you don’t have the time, or the patience, to read long-form articles: - The CEO team was built to solve the biggest scaling paradox: how to stay in “founder mode” without becoming a bottleneck. It’s how we embed the Sword way into everything we do. - The model works best at scale with seven “samurais” who are high-execution generalists. They thrive on intensity, adapt fast, and make things happen. - It’s the ultimate training ground for top talent. These profiles grow fast, get poached into senior roles by other leaders, and keep the cycle going. A full refresh of the CEO team is expected every 18 months. That’s a feature, not a bug. - The CEO team gives us dynamic elasticity across the org. When a leader needs more bandwidth, hits a blocker, or there’s no one to lead a new area, the CEO team steps in like a SWAT team. - It acts as a mirror. Strong leaders see it as a tool to amplify their impact. Others may find it challenging because it brings underlying weaknesses to light. Either way, the company gets better—and Sword wins. Thrilled to announce that Biovance Capital has led a Series A investment in Portuguese company Mondego Bio to advance breakthrough cancer treatments, alongside global investors OrbiMed and Torrey Pines Investment LLC. This is a historic milestone for our biotech sector, as it marks the first time that American biotech funds of this size have invested in Portugal. The co-investments from OrbiMed, a $17B global leader in healthcare investing, and Torrey Pines, a premier US life sciences firm, underscore Mondego Bio's potential to transform cancer immunotherapy. Excited to work with Nikolay, Iain, Dr. Sanja, and Mondego Bio's team alongside my colleagues Joao Incio, MD PhD and André Albergaria to drive this groundbreaking work forward and help shape the future of cancer treatment. Discovery before demo. I learned this at an Endeavor Portugal and Shilling VC dinner last week. Rui Carvalho (Coverflex) and Luís Batalha (Amplemarket) shared their approach: First 15 minutes of any call = zero demo. Pure discovery only. "Listen more than talk," Luís said. It sounds obvious, but most founders (myself included) rush to showcase features. At Framedrop.ai, we've started following this rule. The results have been impressive: we're getting better qualified leads, higher close rates, and more aligned proposals. The urge to impress with AI capabilities is strong, but understanding their workflow first is where deals are won. What's your biggest discovery question for prospects?
