\$\begingroup\$ I like the idea of using spellcaster's DC but I was under the impression that staves used the spellcaster's DC for spells (i.e. Staff of the Magi) and a static DC for other spell-like abilities (i.e. Staff of Thunder and Lightning). \$\endgroup\$

\$\begingroup\$ @UnalignedOoze The static DC for Staff of the Magi is only for the retributive strike - both the Magi and the Fire utilize the caster's DC for all the spells. \$\endgroup\$

\$\begingroup\$ I think it is worth noting that no-save grapple+*restrained* on hitting Large or smaller seems very powerful \$\endgroup\$
