1\$\begingroup\$ follow up question: Could I sheath my sword, then cast a spell? Does this require a bonus action, or could I just do it during my action (my reaction spells don't require somatic cmomponents, so I don't care about that) \$\endgroup\$Qoray– Qoray2020-02-02 15:59:17 +00:00Commented Feb 2, 2020 at 15:59

\$\begingroup\$ Welcome to RPG.SE! Take the tour if you haven't already, and check out the help center for more guidance. We have a general guideline of 1 question per post. If you have a new question, you should ask it separately (but make sure to search to make sure it hasn't already been asked). \$\endgroup\$V2Blast– V2Blast2020-02-02 23:43:43 +00:00Commented Feb 2, 2020 at 23:43

\$\begingroup\$ Related (some might be possible duplicates): How does War Caster interact with Hexblade?, Can Hexblade warlocks use a staff and shield?, Can a wizard using an arcane focus quarterstaff and a shield still cast somatic component spells? \$\endgroup\$V2Blast– V2Blast2020-02-02 23:43:59 +00:00Commented Feb 2, 2020 at 23:43

\$\begingroup\$ worth noting that Hold Person is VSM, and thus lets you use your spellcasting focus hand just fine. The others are, admittedly, more porblematic. On the other hand, Shadow of Moil requires an expensive component, so even Warcaster wont' help you there. \$\endgroup\$Ben Barden– Ben Barden2021-01-08 21:57:43 +00:00Commented Jan 8, 2021 at 21:57

How to Tag
A tag is a keyword or label that categorizes your question with other, similar questions. Choose one or more (up to 5) tags that will help answerers to find and interpret your question.
- Make sure you include the system tag for the game system you are asking about (if appropriate and if the tag exists).
- complete the sentence: my question is about...
- use tags that describe things or concepts that are essential, not incidental to your question
- favor using existing popular tags
- read the descriptions that appear below the tag
If your question is primarily about a topic for which you can't find a tag:
- combine multiple words into single-words with hyphens (e.g. dnd-5e-2014), up to a maximum of 35 characters
- creating new tags is a privilege; if you can't yet create a tag you need, then post this question without it, then ask the community to create it for you
