44\$\begingroup\$ Perfect answer, with a little nitpick that instead of "Nothing. You do nothing." I'd write "Die. You die." \$\endgroup\$Mołot– Mołot2021-05-10 14:26:44 +00:00Commented May 10, 2021 at 14:26

29\$\begingroup\$ @Devils_Spawn A ring that gives all monsters -4 on every roll is extremely overpowered (especially for a level 3 party), so it sounds like the DM may not be balancing the game/adventure very well. I'd recommend sitting down as a group and reviewing some example encounters and rewards with the help of some online calculators to make sure things are balanced. While it may seem cool, unbalanced stuff like this (or like throwing 3 liches at the party) can quickly lead to an unfun game/total party kill. \$\endgroup\$TylerH– TylerH2021-05-10 21:25:10 +00:00Commented May 10, 2021 at 21:25

25\$\begingroup\$ @Devils_Spawn To emphasize further TylerH’s point, an item that is “-4 to all enemy rolls” is probably more powerful than any officially published item, regardless of rarity. \$\endgroup\$Thomas Markov– Thomas Markov2021-05-10 22:26:15 +00:00Commented May 10, 2021 at 22:26

7\$\begingroup\$ @TylerH That ring sounds like the DM comes from 3.5e, where a -4 modifier was a pretty common thing. In 5e it's an abysmal detriment tho. I think, the DM doesn't know how to do the 5e balancing right AND they're not fighting actual Liches. But I'm extremely curious about the reveal. \$\endgroup\$TheKhileyan– TheKhileyan2021-05-11 00:00:32 +00:00Commented May 11, 2021 at 0:00

How to Tag
A tag is a keyword or label that categorizes your question with other, similar questions. Choose one or more (up to 5) tags that will help answerers to find and interpret your question.
- Make sure you include the system tag for the game system you are asking about (if appropriate and if the tag exists).
- complete the sentence: my question is about...
- use tags that describe things or concepts that are essential, not incidental to your question
- favor using existing popular tags
- read the descriptions that appear below the tag
If your question is primarily about a topic for which you can't find a tag:
- combine multiple words into single-words with hyphens (e.g. dnd-5e-2014), up to a maximum of 35 characters
- creating new tags is a privilege; if you can't yet create a tag you need, then post this question without it, then ask the community to create it for you
