  • \$\begingroup\$ @KaielOfThoth See Does picking up an item while under the effects of the Invisibility spell turn it invisible?. That items don't go invisible when picked up is the majority view and is supported by a JC tweet. It is a polemic issue and certainly plenty of people believe the opposite. \$\endgroup\$ Commented Dec 22, 2023 at 3:58
  • \$\begingroup\$ @KaielOfThoth However, note that the spell says "Anything the target is wearing or carrying is invisible as long as it is on the target's person." If things did become invisible when you picked them up, it would just need to say 'Anything the target is wearing or carrying is invisible' and the rest of it would be redundant. \$\endgroup\$ Commented Dec 22, 2023 at 4:11
  • \$\begingroup\$ Couldn't the emphasized text just as easily express that the parameters are not set at cast and prevent a reading in which objects the creature was carrying or holding when the spell was cast remained invisible after being set down? Without those words, a PC could go invisible while carrying explosives, set them down wherever they want, and since it didn't specify it was only invisible as long as it was on their person, the explosives remain invisible until they detonate 5 minutes later when the PC has left. \$\endgroup\$ Commented Dec 22, 2023 at 16:41
  • \$\begingroup\$ @KaielOfThoth If the only reason for the extra text was to prevent that interpretation, it would still be unnecessary. "Anything the target is wearing or carrying is invisible" is not the same as "Anything the target wears, wore, carries, or carried is invisible". Since the statement is in present tense it already excludes anything later set down and doesn't need the extra words. Since it is in present progressive (and not simple present) it refers back to the moment of casting. \$\endgroup\$ Commented Dec 22, 2023 at 16:54
