A pivot is only considered valid if its height/depth exceeds a specified multiple of the Average True Range (ATR). 2. Adaptive Radius via Kalman Filter Most indicators use Simple Moving Averages (SMA) to calculate historical data, which inherently introduces lag. This indicator utilizes a 1D Kalman Filter to estimate the "true" historical radius—measuring both time (X-axis, bars) and price (Y-axis)—between similar pivots (i.e., PH to PH, and PL to PL). Rather than simply displaying Moving Averages and leaving interpretation to visual analysis, this system calculates objective metrics that answer key questions: How aligned is the trend across all timeframes? Where is price relative to the MA structure? Are the MAs compressing (signaling potential breakout)? Where do multiple MAs cluster to form significant levels? The indicator displays up to eight independently configurable Moving Averages, each capable of pulling data from different timeframes and using different calculation methods. Beyond visualization, it provides a Trend Alignment Score that quantifies momentum direction, a Price Position Score that measures where price sits within the MA structure, and real-time detection of compression and confluence conditions. How It Works 1. Multi-Layer Moving Average System Eight Moving Averages are available, each with independent configuration for Length, Type (SMA, EMA, RMA, WMA, HMA, VWMA), and Timeframe. The default configuration spans from 8 EMA (fast momentum) to 800 EMA (secular trend), providing complete trend context from scalping to position trading perspectives. Each MA can reference a different timeframe, enabling multi-timeframe analysis on a single chart without switching. 2. Trend Alignment Score Calculation The system calculates slope direction for each enabled MA by comparing current value to the previous bar's value. The Trend Score formula is: Trend Score = ((Bullish MAs - Bearish MAs) / Total Enabled MAs) × 100 This produces a score from -100 (all MAs falling) to +100 (all MAs rising). Scores above +50 indicate strong bullish alignment; below -50 indicates strong bearish alignment. The score crossing zero signals momentum transition. 3. Price Position Analysis The indicator counts how many MAs price is currently above versus below: Position Score = (MAs Price is Above / Total Enabled MAs) × 100 A score of 100% means price is above all MAs (fully bullish positioning); 0% means price is below all MAs (fully bearish positioning). Each signal is confirmed by three independent filters firing simultaneously, reducing noise and false positives. How it works The indicator requires all three conditions to align at the same time before printing a signal: 1. Adaptive Envelope Filter Rather than relying on fixed overbought/oversold thresholds like traditional RSI, the script builds a dynamic price envelope using Ehlers-based two-pole adaptive smoothing applied to log-transformed price data. The envelope width is scaled by a smoothed true range, making it automatically adjust to the instrument's current volatility regime. A bearish fractal requires the pivot high to reach or exceed the upper envelope boundary; a bullish fractal requires the pivot low to touch or breach the lower boundary. This eliminates the common problem of oscillators generating false reversal signals during strong trending conditions. 2. Structural Pivot with ATR Gate The script detects confirmed pivot highs and lows using left/right bar verification (configurable period). To filter out insignificant price noise, the pivot candle must exhibit a minimum range relative to ATR(14). Small, indecisive candles that technically form a pivot but carry no real reversal weight are discarded. 3. Momentum Confirmation A long-period momentum oscillator (rate of change, default 50 bars) must already be changing direction at the pivot candle. For bearish fractals, momentum must be declining; for bullish fractals, momentum must be rising. Additionally, the candle immediately following the pivot must close in the direction of the reversal, providing early structural confirmation and filtering out pivots that form but fail to follow through. Signals L (Bullish) — green label below bar. Confirmed reversal up from the oversold adaptive envelope zone, with rising momentum and bullish follow-through candle. S (Bearish) — red label above bar. Confirmed reversal down from the overbought adaptive envelope zone, with declining momentum and bearish follow-through candle. Signals appear with a delay equal to the pivot period (default 3 bars) as this time is needed for structural confirmation. This is not a predictive indicator — it confirms reversals that have already begun. Built-in Statistics The panel in the bottom-right corner tracks win rate in real time across the full available history. A trade is counted as a win if price reaches the take profit level (default 1.5R) before hitting the stop loss (default 0.5 × ATR from pivot extreme). Conservative counting: if a new signal appears before the previous trade resolves, the unfinished trade is counted as a loss. If both TP and SL are hit on the same bar, it is counted as a loss. Settings Core: Pivot Period, ATR Gate multiplier, Momentum Period. Adaptive Envelope: Price source, Lookback period, Amplitude (envelope width). Statistics: SL multiplier, TP risk-reward ratio, panel toggle. Appearance: Bullish and bearish signal colors. Recommended timeframes: 4H and 1D. Works on any timeframe from 1H upward. Disabled below 1H with an on-chart warning. What makes this different from public fractal indicators Standard fractal indicators (Williams Fractals, Pivot Points) mark every local high/low regardless of context. This produces excessive signals, most of which fail. Dept Fractals adds three layers of confirmation: the pivot must occur at a statistically extreme price level (adaptive envelope), the candle must be significant (ATR gate), and momentum must already be shifting (momentum filter + follow-through candle). The adaptive envelope is particularly important — unlike RSI or Stochastic which use fixed periods and levels, the Ehlers-based smoothing with log-price and scaled true range adapts to each instrument and market condition without parameter changes.
