🎥 FBL Author Interview | Unraveling the Role of Hedgehog Signaling in Tongue Muscle Development ❓ How does the development of the mammalian tongue differ from other skeletal muscles, and what drives its intricate formation? 📚 In this special interview, we feature Dr. Archana Kumari and Ms. Ashlyn McClelland from the Rowan-Virtua School of Osteopathic Medicine, who share their insights into the precisely coordinated processes of embryonic and fetal myogenesis in the mammalian tongue. As the authors of the FBL review “Hedgehog Signaling in Tongue Muscle Development: A Comparative Perspective With Limb Myogenesis,” Dr. Kumari and Ms. McClelland discuss: 🧬 The vital role of the Hedgehog (HH) signaling pathway in the formation and spatial patterning of tongue muscle 🔍 Why structural, functional, and organizational differences prevent the direct application of limb skeletal muscle research to the tongue 💡 The distinct regulatory mechanisms operating throughout key stages of myogenesis, including myoblast determination, proliferation, and differentiation 🧪 How HH signaling uniquely operates in a non-cell-autonomous manner from the epithelium to cranial neural crest cell (CNCC)-derived mesenchyme in the tongue 🤖 The potential of these studies to pave the way for regenerative therapeutic strategies addressing congenital anomalies and acquired conditions affecting the tongue 🔍 They also share their perspectives on the necessity of comprehensive comparative analyses to establish the conserved and divergent mechanisms by which HH signaling operates across distinct muscle systems. 🎬 Watch the full FBL interview:https://lnkd.in/gt9xYP_c 📖 Read the full open-access review here: https://lnkd.in/g_AZfZhU #HedgehogSignaling #MuscleDevelopment #Myogenesis #SkeletalMuscle #BiomedicalResearch #CraniofacialDevelopment #FBL

🧠 You use the word "home" every day. Could you actually define it? Superordinate concepts like home, love, world, and person are fundamental to how we speak and think—yet they are remarkably difficult to define precisely. A new hypothesis paper in Journal of Integrative Neuroscience proposes that the brain builds these concepts by integrating three layers of information at once: objects perceived through the senses, events that unfold over time, and narratives learned through language and culture. Together they are expressed as a single verbal label, encoded across distributed large-scale neural networks spanning the prefrontal cortex, temporoparietal cortex, and amygdala. Study snapshot · Theoretical/hypothesis paper on superordinate concepts and their neural representation · 10 everyday concepts examined, including home, love, world, life, and person · Concept formation proposed to begin in infancy and continue maturing across adulthood Key findings: 🔹 Superordinate concepts are proposed to be "meta-analytic" labels that combine object-, event-, and narrative-based knowledge. 🔹 Their neural implementation is distributed across prefrontal, temporoparietal, and subcortical (amygdala) networks, with links to the default mode network. 🔹 Because they depend on cortico-cortical connectivity, they may be vulnerable in stroke, Alzheimer's disease, and schizophrenia. ❓ Which everyday concept do you find hardest to define, and what does that difficulty reveal about how the brain organizes meaning? #Neuroscience #Cognition #Language #BrainHealth

🧠 HR analytics does not begin with an algorithm. It begins with whether an organization has the capacity to use data responsibly. A study of 50 non-listed firms in Kosovo examined what drives Big Data Analytics adoption in Human Resource Management across 2015-2022. The findings show that digital transformation is shaped as much by organizational readiness as by technology itself. Study snapshot · Panel-data analysis of 50 non-listed Kosovo firms over eight years · Firm size, technological readiness, and financial resources positively supported BDA adoption in HRM · Low employee skill levels and regulatory compliance burdens emerged as major barriers Key findings: 🔹 Technology without data-literate employees is unlikely to transform HR practice. 🔹 Financial capacity and technological readiness determine whether firms can move from interest to implementation. 🔹 Streamlined regulation, digital literacy, training, and change management can help resource-constrained firms adopt analytics more effectively. ❓ When organizations introduce HR analytics, what should come first: technology, workforce capability, governance, or trust? #HRAnalytics #DigitalTransformation #FutureOfWork #HumanResources

🫀 Beyond the lumen: how optical coherence tomography is reshaping coronary imaging Coronary angiography remains fundamental in interventional cardiology, but it cannot fully reveal the underlying vessel wall pathology. An Editorial in Reviews in Cardiovascular Medicine (RCM) discusses the evolution of intracoronary optical coherence tomography (OCT) and its expanding role in coronary research and clinical practice. 🔍 Key insights: ✅ OCT provides high-resolution visualization of plaque morphology, thrombus, and vessel wall characteristics ✅ OCT helps identify mechanisms of ACS and optimize complex PCI strategies ✅ AI-assisted analysis may improve automation, consistency, and clinical decision support ✅ Future multimodal imaging approaches may integrate anatomical, biological, and physiological assessment 💡 The future of coronary intervention is moving from assessing the lumen to understanding vessel biology. 📄 Read more: https://lnkd.in/gkHGXCxU ✍️ Authors: Antonios Karanasos, PERIKLIS DAVLOUROS 🏛 Affiliation: University of Patras, Greece #Cardiology #InterventionalCardiology #OCT #PCI

🧠 Some of the most common medications may be quietly harming cognition in older adults — and many prescriptions go unreviewed. Anticholinergic drugs (used in some antihistamines, antidepressants, and bladder/GI medications) block acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter central to memory. Their cumulative burden (ACB) tracks with cognitive decline — this new real-world study shows how. Study snapshot · 742 older adults, university old-age psychiatry clinic · Groups: no impairment / mild NCD / Alzheimer's major NCD / other major NCD · Cognitive tests (MMSE, MoCA, COGTEL) + GDS-15 + Bristol ADL Key findings 🔹 Higher ACB → worse long-term memory (-0.24, p<0.001) & working memory (-0.24, p=0.001) 🔹 Higher ACB → more depressive symptoms (0.72, p<0.001) 🔹 Higher ACB → poorer daily function (IADL 0.58, p<0.001) ❓ How often does your practice review the anticholinergic burden of older patients with depression or cognitive decline? 👇 #Neurocognition #Geriatrics #Psychiatry
