Not in my limited experience.

UMlUML is often used for illustrations in design or architecture documents. In that case it isn't going to be stored separately as a numbered document.

If you're using a design tool, such as IBM Rhapsody, then each diagram will be part of a larger model, and stored under version control as part of that model.
