Jul 19, 2011 at 3:26 comment added Peter Turner @devoured, we've actually benefited from DB platform independence (in a very small way) because of the blissful ignorance, it wasn't until very recently that you could count on foreign keys actually doing the same thing on MySQL and SQLServer and it was futile to try. Now, however, it is a pain in the butt because I don't want to continue down that course any more.
Jul 18, 2011 at 21:52 comment added devoured elysium TBH, I find it odd that in all those decades they didn't get what the advantages of having tables in 3NF was, even not knowing what 3NF was. A lot of people have tables in 3NF without knowing it, just because it's what feels right.

Jul 18, 2011 at 19:59 comment added maple_shaft God forbid you have to rewrite an application that is over 20 years old.

Jul 18, 2011 at 19:40 comment added Peter Turner @GrandmasterB, I'm beginning to think so too. Although given the current size of the program, I think we'd have to rewrite the whole dang thing to normalize it.

Jul 18, 2011 at 19:39 comment added GrandmasterB Given the number of people who use SQL without ever taking a class in the subject, thats sort of a BS excuse on their part.
Jul 18, 2011 at 19:38 comment added Peter Turner @thursdaysgeek, they're all under 50, the guy with the most experience went to school in Ukraine - although I think he was a math major.
Jul 18, 2011 at 19:36 comment added thursdaysgeek How old are these guys?! I went to school in the mid-80's and it was taught then, and I didn't stop learning when I graduated, either. I'm 50 -- are they in their 70s and 80s?

Removed the inflamatory language in the title this is a good question but the correctly moniker makes it inflamatory
