2$\begingroup$ First and foremost, welcome; good first question! Some additional related questions on Kurs: space.stackexchange.com/questions/21965/… and space.stackexchange.com/questions/22041/… $\endgroup$Magic Octopus Urn– Magic Octopus Urn2018-09-06 18:30:42 +00:00Commented Sep 6, 2018 at 18:30

$\begingroup$ @MagicOctopusUrn Thanks! Of course my motivation for this is basically 'Hey Engineers, why aren't you using [fancy new stuff] because driverless cars!' (yes, driverless cars are much further off than everyone thinks, but space docking just seemed much more controllable situation ... <UNBRIDLED_ENTHUSIASM>put QR-code-like things everywhere and sensors everywhere and do it better than manual!</UNBRIDLED_ENTHUSIASM>). $\endgroup$Mitch– Mitch2018-09-06 18:38:19 +00:00Commented Sep 6, 2018 at 18:38

1$\begingroup$ I think an answer that explains broadly how automated docking works would be great! As for "not used anymore", the shiny new digital version of Kurs is still used regularly at the ISS. See the excellent answer to Do the Soyuz spacecraft bringing astronauts and supplies to the ISS use Ukraine-built Kurs systems? $\endgroup$user12102– user121022018-09-07 00:20:09 +00:00Commented Sep 7, 2018 at 0:20

How to Tag
A tag is a keyword or label that categorizes your question with other, similar questions. Choose one or more (up to 5) tags that will help answerers to find and interpret your question.
- complete the sentence: my question is about...
- use tags that describe things or concepts that are essential, not incidental to your question
- favor using existing popular tags
- read the descriptions that appear below the tag
If your question is primarily about a topic for which you can't find a tag:
- combine multiple words into single-words with hyphens (e.g. orbital-mechanics), up to a maximum of 35 characters
- creating new tags is a privilege; if you can't yet create a tag you need, then post this question without it, then ask the community to create it for you
