(yes, driverless cars are much further off than everyone thinks, but space docking just seemed much more controllable situation ... <UNBRIDLED_ENTHUSIASM>put QR-code-like things everywhere and sensors everywhere and do it better than manual!</UNBRIDLED_ENTHUSIASM>). $\endgroup$ Commented Sep 6, 2018 at 18:38

    $\begingroup$ I think an answer that explains broadly how automated docking works would be great! As for "not used anymore", the shiny new digital version of Kurs is still used regularly at the ISS.
