  • Thanks for the response. The query given is just an example that shows one of the distantly joined tables being used to filter results. Columns from almost every table joined in this query could potentially be used in the WHERE clause. Commented Dec 19, 2012 at 18:56
  • You should still use SEMI-JOIN (EXISTS or IN) when appropriate instead of DISTINCT, it is clearer to both future reader and perhaps more importantly to the optimizer. Commented Dec 20, 2012 at 8:46
