I'm Stuart, a data scientist who works in genomics.

At WEHI I research how short tandem repeats drive neurodegenerative diseases, using large cohorts like UK Biobank and Genomics England. I'm also interested in how we interpret prediction models—particularly as genetic risk scores and biological foundation models become widespread. Previously I built analytics tools at Genentech and research applications at the University of Melbourne.

I created plyranges, which brings tidy data principles to genomics and is now part of the tidyomics ecosystem.

In my PhD days I wrote some blogs about teaching data science.

I care about making data science accessible to people without quantitative backgrounds, which shapes how I build software and teach.
