Mar 12, 2023 at 22:49 comment added Валерий Заподовников In fact Wiki says placebo is the best: "It helps at most ~1% in terms of quality, compared to the veryslow preset at the cost of a much higher encoding time." Also, you should not use mp4 container for comparison. Encode directly to Annex B files, i.e. .264. If that is still a problem in newest FFnpeg and newest x264, report it to trac.ffmpeg.org.

Jun 2, 2020 at 15:03 comment added lvella "Best compression" is different from "most compressed". In this case, veryfast gave the most compressed file by chance, and probably one of the worst qualities when compared to the original.

Jun 1, 2020 at 23:44 comment added Peter Mortensen What do you mean by the last question? Whether "veryfast" is expected to result in the highest or lowest loss of video quality among the presets (compared to the original)?

Copy edited (e.g. ref. <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FFmpeg> and <https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Dax90QyXgI&t=0m38s>). In English, the subjective form of the singular first-person pronoun, "I", is capitalized. Tried to make it comprehensible (part of it is not following 'QUASM').
