when toggle format what by license comment
Feb 17, 2025 at 15:43 comment added Austin Hemmelgarn @LPChip Ripping audio CD’s is generally legal in most of the world, provided you don’t redistribute the ripped audio. In general with intellectual property, what you do with any copies you make is what matters, not the fact that you made copies.
Feb 17, 2025 at 9:39 comment added marcelm @LPChip I'm not sure where you're getting that. You can absolutely convert cue/bin files to MP3. Also, where I live ripping CDs you own is legal.
Feb 17, 2025 at 9:18 comment added Peter Cordes Side note: I'd only recommend MP3 that if you have old hardware players that can't play Opus (best quality per bitrate, and the best encoder is open source), or at least AAC (competitive quality per bitrate, but only with closed-source encoders). For use on a computer, Opus is the clear winner. Or a lossless format like FLAC if you have plenty of space and really like that CD so want to keep a full-quality copy of it around.

Feb 17, 2025 at 0:20 comment added JW0914 I think dBpoweramp has the ability to read the raw PCM files - it offers a free trial of the full software and plugins for install. VLC Media Player also appears like it can do so by using this script and changing the CD drive letter to the root folder path for the CD (could be the top level directory or CD01)
Feb 17, 2025 at 0:10 comment added JW0914 @NickSlash Please provide reference links to the law, as it seems like there's some misunderstanding since owning a CD allows you to do whatever you want with the music for personal use per copyright law, including copying the music off the CD to a storage medium

Feb 16, 2025 at 22:59 comment added Franck Dernoncourt @LPChip Depends on the CD.

Feb 16, 2025 at 16:18 comment added LPChip You can't convert it. You literally have to rip it using software. Ripping audio CD's is considered illegal, so we can't help you there.
