Tequila Cayéya Reposado
“Aroma: Toffee leads the nose with subtle floral notes and a touch of honey. Flavor: The palate opens with light sweetness but ultimately falls flat for me. I was hoping for a little more depth. Finish: Short. A touch of pepper appears before fading into a lingering sweetness. Overall: The nose showed some promise with its toffee, honey, and floral aromas, but the palate lacked the complexity and character I look for in a reposado. The short finish and lingering sweetness left me wanting more. ”

Tequila Cayéya Blanco
“Aroma: I get some citrus with some fresh green notes and light eucalyptus. As it opens, I pick up some floral aromas a little jasmine, along with a clean, perfumed note that reminds me of fresh dryer sheets. Flavor: Cooked agave is present with light minerality. The profile is fairly straightforward, and a subtle sweetness begins to emerge Finish: Short-Medium. Pepper and anise appear first, followed by a lingering sweetness. I also found a medicinal, alcohol-forward, rubber-like note on the finish Overall: While this expression didn’t align with my palate, others who enjoy sweeter or more perfumed profiles may have a different experience. I’ve seen it at $35-$49 ”

Mi Casa Reposado RVSB-001
“First of all the color is very light on this reposado, which makes sense as it’s only aged for a little over 4 months. Aroma is light with notes of wet cement, alcohol, mushrooms and minerality. The flavor comes across as raw agave and mint. It has a medium-to-long finish of raw agave and white pepper. My guess is the master distiller pulled this off the barrel before picking up too much sweetness from the barrel as I don’t get any oak, vanilla or caramel. In my opinion it would’ve benefited from another month or two in the barrel to balance the raw agave sharpness and round out this reposado. However, if you like your tequila with tons of raw agave and pepper, this one is for you.”

“Aroma: not an impressive aroma, resembles a slight paint thinner. Flavor: a little mint and black pepper, slightly chemical nodes, light sweetness Finish: a little heat, finish is nothing special and short lived. All in all not a bad tequila but I was expecting more. ”

AD Tequila Blanco
“AD Tahona Reserva Artesanal Blanco (NOM 1123) Score (current): 91/100 Nose Damp concrete minerality immediately leads the way, followed by subtle floral notes that slowly emerge as the glass opens. Clean, bright, and inviting without excessive alcohol. The minerality becomes more expressive with time and is one of the highlights of the experience. Taste (TNT) An exceptionally thick, oily mouthfeel coats both the glass and the palate. Black pepper and cinnamon provide a warming backbone while restrained agave sweetness balances a light vegetal fermentation. Despite the richness, the profile remains crisp and bright rather than heavy. Excellent texture is one of this tequila’s defining characteristics. Finish A long, warming finish carries lingering agave sweetness, cinnamon spice, and a gentle vegetal fermentation. The fermentation adds complexity without overpowering the agave, allowing the finish to remain clean and satisfying. Overall Thoughts This is a tequila built around texture and minerality. The oily mouthfeel and lingering legs in the glass immediately showcase the craftsmanship behind the tahona process. It may not be the loudest or sweetest blanco, but it delivers balance, complexity, and a distinctly traditional profile that rewards slow sipping. For me, this captures many of the qualities I look for in a traditional additive-free tequila—minerality, mouthfeel, restrained sweetness, and layered complexity. It’s a bottle I would gladly revisit and recommend to anyone wanting to understand how texture can elevate a tequila.”

Santanera Tahona Tequila Blanco
“Santanera Tahona Blanco (NOM 1123) Score: 84/100 Fresh Crack Experience This review deserves an asterisk because it changed more than almost any tequila I’ve tasted. My first impressions and my final impressions were dramatically different. This bottle taught me the importance of letting a fresh crack breathe and judging the entire glass—not the first sip. Nose (First Pour) Initially very reserved and almost neutral. There was warmth in the glass but very little to pull me in. For a NOM 1123 tequila, I expected much more expression and was immediately disappointed. Nose (After Opening) After 15–20 minutes the nose came alive. Wet concrete and mineral notes slowly emerged along with subtle earthy aromas. It never became an explosive nose, but it transformed from bland into something much more interesting. Taste The first thing that stood out was the mouthfeel. Exceptionally thick, creamy and oily. The tequila coated the palate beautifully, and even after the pour the glass held large persistent beads and slow-moving legs. The texture is among the best I’ve experienced in a blanco. Flavor brought black pepper, cinnamon, restrained sweetness and a slight bitter contrast. This isn’t an agave bomb. Instead, it leans toward a savory profile with enough sweetness to keep it balanced. Finish (First Pour) This was where I struggled the most. The lingering fermentation and black licorice reminded me of someone using too much poultry seasoning on Thanksgiving turkey or adding too much Italian seasoning to a tomato sauce. The herbs overwhelmed everything else, and the finish dominated my first impression. At this point I honestly thought I might score this tequila somewhere in the high 60s or low 70s. Finish (After Opening) As the glass continued to breathe, the finish softened considerably. The fermentation character remained, but it became more integrated with a gentle sweetness that wasn’t there at first. The balance improved enough that I found myself wanting another sip instead of trying to get past the finish. Overall Thoughts This tasting was a roller coaster. I started genuinely disappointed—especially knowing this came from NOM 1123, a distillery that has produced many of my favorite tequilas. I had to consciously set aside my expectations and judge only what was in the glass. By the end of the pour, the tequila had completely changed my opinion. While it still isn’t my favorite expression from NOM 1123, I gained a real appreciation for what it offers. The texture is exceptional, the evolving nose rewarded patience, and the finish became increasingly enjoyable as the tequila opened. Would I choose this over Cascahuín Tahona? No. Would I drink it again? Absolutely. Would I recommend it? Yes—especially to someone wanting to understand the remarkable mouthfeel that tahona production can create. This is also an excellent reminder that some traditionally made tequilas need time in the glass before revealing their full personality.”

Viva Mexico Madera Blanco
“ This has been one of my favorites coming out of the Vivanco distillery. Incredible aromas! Roasted agave, warm lemon peels, broken cinnamon sticks, peppermint. Mouthfeel is great with a nice body or viscosity, that sweetness I get on the nose starts to come into the back of my tongue and turns into a cool warmth. Flavor is pleasantly sweet, more agave, and cinnamon spice, you wouldn’t know this was 104 proof. Beautiful finish, all the flavors fade into a warm sweetness. ”

Dos Ángeles Caídos Tequila Añejo
“I think some complexity got lost from the reposado to the añejo. This was aged 18 months total. 12 more than the repo. Seems like that was too much for my liking. The agave and earthiness and grassy notes are all but gone. It’s still a nice añejo. I found the barrel notes not overdone it still clean and balance just without some of the punchiness that’s in the blanco and repo. ”

Dos Ángeles Caídos Tequila Reposado
“I loved this one. Aged 6 months in both American oak and French oak then blended. I get so many of both, vanilla caramel , tropical fruits, maple, raisin, earthiness and musky ”
More info →“I love this mellowed version of their blanco. Their blanco definitely has a kick giving it some character. It was created to remind you tequila blanco back in the day was for those that don’t like to mince words. It’s in your face demanding respect. This Rosa mellows that down a couple of notches while going it a different profile. Aged less than 2 months in Tempranillo wine barrels. Wine from Mexico’s Valle de Guadalupe. It’s complex still maintains some agave and citrus from the unaged blanco ”

Dos Ángeles Caídos Tequila Blanco
“It’s a blanco with character. It’s punchy agave forward bright and refreshing. I thought it was cool how some cooked agave sweetness comes through from mid palate and finish. I don’t get that sweetness on the nose. I do get some butter aromas as well as on the palate. Very cool. Nose agave, butter, grassy Palate agave grassy mint butter and pepper 8.5/10”
