BotCon TF Convention Changes Name

UPDATED: BotCon.com has update their web site with a new look and layout. That's not all that changed. There's news the name of the offical Transformers convention has changed. Formerly known as "BotCon," the new convention has been renamed to the "Official TransFormers Collector's Convention" (OTFCC). Check out the offical update for more information HERE.

Glen Halit has sent out an update offering some support for why the name has been changed and what this means to the convention. The good news is this is logical and positive change meant to improve the accessibility and knowledge to the official Transformers convention to those who don't know about it already. We'll try and answer a few question here:

"Through a mutual decision between myself and Jon Hartman, the site www.botcon.com will be the "archival" home for the convention series from 1994-2002. A new website, www.otfcc.com will now serve as the online home for all future conventions. In addition, there will be some crossover between the old and new site, as it is important for new visitors to know BotCon, as its predecessor, has a long and rich history in the fandom.

Why the name change? Why not call it something just as clever, such as DeceptiCon? For some time now, it has been discussed that the name of the show should be very clear to those that haven't heard of BotCon or know what it's about. When a casual fan on the street hears "Transformers convention", they know what its subject is about and what will go on there. Further, it would be an insult to Jon and the fans if another, equally clever name, was used in "BotCon's" place. However, the Official Transformers Collectors' Convention and the Official Transformers Collectors' Club is a bit wordy! Taking a suggestion from Jon, the acronym OTFCC serves double duty, as both Collectors' Convention and Collectors' Club. People will call it whatever they wish, but at least this suggestion helps! The new website will serve double duty as wellonce we finalize the last details for the club, not only will fans see up-to-date info about the convention, but they will be able to access fan-club only sections on the site, enriching the convention experience."

Users will be able to get all their future OTFCC news and updates an the new web site that will be activated very very soon HERE.
