In the rest of this thread, I'll describe CashTokens and why I think they're an important tool for expanding financial access and protecting human rights.

By 2014, BTC was the clear future of money: inflation resistant, pro-freedom, sound money for the world. A decade later, it's a quirky, unreliable, “digital gold”. This book explains how we lost a decade in the growth of peer-to-peer cash, and how we nearly lost the movement

Excited to share a new proof of concept: Joint-Execution Decentralized Exchange (Jedex) is a non-custodial, censorship-resistant token DEX architecture for Bitcoin Cash (BCH). Jedex demos new techniques made possible by CashTokens, an upgrade proposal for 2023. (1/n)

Congrats on the 2023 upgrade, Bitcoin Cash! 🎉 Beginning with block #792773 (000000000000000002fc0cdadaef1857bbd2936d37ea94f80ba3db4a5e8353e8), $BCH supports #CashTokens, future-proof multiparty vaults (P2SH32), and several non-breaking technical improvements to TX validation.

Very excited to begin rolling out full support for Bitcoin Cash. With average transaction fees on the BTC network now running over ~$20 USD, it couldn't come at a better time.

I'm still not sure if creating a "real" L2 is possible at all. The only way to have the same risk profile is to have the same validator set. But if it's the same validator set, it'd be just an extension of the existing L1 (i.e. it directly scales L1 rather than creates an L2).

While some computations are still impractical (requiring loop unrolling and/or multi-input computation), I think BCH is within 1-2 years of exceeding ETH in contract efficiency across all remaining classes of computation. VM limits were the messiest problem blocking Bitcoin Cash
    Stateless Validation Architecture
In contrast, this proposal preserves the superior user experience and scalability of Bitcoin Cash:
Reliable user experience – users never pay for un-mined, "failed" transactions, user transactions cannot be re-ordered by miners without user consent (via deliberate participation in reorder-able contract schemes), and unconfirmed transactions can be chained such that earlier transactions are guaranteed to be mined if a later transaction in the chain is mined (enabling additional miner-abuse resistance and censorship-resistance strategies).
No-fee contract deployment and superior real-world privacy – User wallets both “deploy” and “destroy” contracts incrementally as part of their usage, rather than calling monolithic, expensive-to-deploy, "global" contracts – improving both overall network throughput and real-world privacy.
Reliably-low fees, even for complex contracts – The per-computation contract validation costs for Bitcoin Cash node operators ...

Proposing three CHIPs for Bitcoin Cash's 2026 upgrade: loops, function eval, and Pay to Script (P2S). These would make BCH contracts more efficient than ETH, SOL, etc. across some remaining gaps + optimize transaction sizes for zero-knowledge and post-quantum covenants. (1/6)
