The founder-built European VC. We partner with the most ambitious entrepreneurs using tech to rewire the world, better

About us

Atomico is the founder-built European venture capital firm. For two decades, we have partnered with Europe’s most ambitious entrepreneurs using technology to rewire the world and strengthen Europe’s long-term resilience. Skype co-founder Niklas Zennström launched Atomico in 2006 on the conviction that Europe’s best founders should be able to build global companies without leaving Europe to do it. That conviction continues to guide us: backing founders building critical technological capabilities in Europe, reducing strategic dependencies and strengthening its global leverage. With dedicated teams in Paris, Berlin, London and Stockholm, Atomico partners with founders at every stage of their journey. 150 of Europe’s most ambitious founders have partnered with Atomico, including Aiven, Bird, Callosum, DeepL, Hinge Health, Jobandtalent, Klarna, Mews, Neko Health, Pipedrive, Stripe, Supercell, Perk and Wellhub.

It's been a busy back to school season for Atomico including the launch of our State of European Tech Survey! (Please take it here: https://lnkd.in/e_Ab9NKd) 🚀 We co-led The Exploration Company's $450M Series C, the largest-ever round raised by a European space company. TEC also signed a €760M agreement with the European Space Agency - ESA for an initial Nyx demonstration mission to the ISS plus two future cargo missions, the largest such contract awarded in open competition. 🦅 Bird secured a $450 million financing from J.P. Morgan and others to pay a dividend to shareholders, while remaining a private company and doubling down on shipping AI-native products. 🤖 CADDi raised a $114M Series D at a $1.2B valuation from Coreline Ventures, Salesforce Ventures, Woven by Toyota, Moore Capital Management and others. 📰 TIME named Neko Health and Corti among the World's Top HealthTech Companies of 2026. ⚛️ PsiQuantum finalised a $100M award from the U.S. Department of Commerce to strengthen American quantum computing and semiconductor supply-chain security. 🏥 Neko Health published three years of data from 80,000+ members those returning for a second scan saw improvements across five cardiometabolic biomarkers, the biggest gains among members managing high blood pressure, cholesterol or diabetes. It also topped Sifted's Nordics 100 as the region's fastest-growing startup! 🤝 Factorial acquired Empion by Factorial, a Berlin-based AI talent assessment platform, deepening its German expansion and launching Talent Assessments across the Factorial platform. ⚡ tem put £50M back into the businesses and generators it serves as they saved on fees and margins since moving off the old energy market. 🥇 CodeRabbit made the 2026 Intelligent Applications 40 by Madrona, recognising the top private companies shaping applied AI. 🎨 Pomelo Care unveiled a new brand identity with Pentagram, marking five years of growth from pregnancy and postpartum care into care for women and children at every stage. ✈️ Perk Spend went live in the US, where customers already spend $1B+ a year on travel and events, bringing travel and spend into one connected platform. 🌱 Partner Hillary Ball took to the stage at Sifted Summit to discuss Europe's growth-stage opportunity. 🏆 Accurx and tem were named in the second Tech Nation Future Fifty 2026 cohort 25 of the UK's most ambitious scaleups, with £1.47B combined funding raised. 🎤 Partners Sasha Vidiborskiy and Andreas Helbig took the stage at HumanX in Amsterdam and Speedinvest's Tech Melange in Vienna, discussing Europe's AI supply chain opportunity and what it will take to build real resilience. 🎖️ Dexory and PhysicsX were shortlisted for the Scale-up Award at the UK Tech Awards 2026. September was another reminder that Europe's ambition is showing up everywhere, from orbit to the high street 🚀🇪🇺,

In Atomico’s State of European Tech report last year, we referred to it as the “scale drain”. Europe isn’t lacking ambitious founders - and they’re being funded at a record pace at the early stage. But we still face a growth-stage bottleneck. The share of US deep tech companies raising rounds of $100 million or more exceeds Europe's rate by five times. When European companies reach the growth phase and need capital at scale, too often they have to look outside Europe for it. We are losing out on financial returns, access to critical technologies, and experienced talent that flows back to benefit everyone. As an ecosystem, we've made significant progress on this, including initiatives like the EU’s €5bn Scaleup Europe Fund, but there's still more work to do. The talent, ambition and ideas are all here. We need to improve the conditions that match that potential: growth capital at scale, a regulatory environment with less friction, and a mindset that champions risk-taking. Looking forward to discussing how we address these solutions at the Sifted Summit on Wednesday with Sebastian Frisk at EQT Group, Hala Fadel at Eurazeo, Charlotte Lawrence at British Business Bank and Freya Pratty at Sifted.

  • 🇪🇺 🇪🇸 💫

Bet on Europe.  🇪🇺 🇪🇸 In gloriously sunny Madrid for a roundtable with private and public institutional investors to discuss investing in European innovation and resilience. The core message. Now's the time for Europe to bet on Europe, commercially and strategically. Bet is the right word, because this is a decision that inevitably comes with some uncertainty. Alignment and appetite is clearly there and already moving capital. As noted, the platforms and instruments to align public and private partners have also taken shape, and are having a big impact. That said, we also raised and debated many familiar and totally reasonable questions that are still keeping private institutional money on the sidelines, waiting and watching while others (in large scale from outside Europe!) jump in first. How do we manage the J-curve when duration is longer than ever? Where do exits come from while European public markets are fragmented? How do I bring my stakeholders with me into something that still feels uncomfortable? We discussed and landed on solid, but sometimes imperfect answers. Ideally, we'd all love access to perfect information and perfect conditions before making a bet that goes against conventional wisdom. But that's not how being early works. There will always be uncertainty. When information is perfect, it's the consensus trade, and the alpha has gone. Channelling David Swensen, the architect of Yale's endowment model, to outperform, you have to own what others think is imprudent, and be comfortable being judged for it until it works. As we heard at lunch, this approach is delivering outperformance for those that allocated early to Europe with conviction and sharp selection. In other words, don't let perfect be the enemy of progress, or of outperformance. Time to make the bet on Spain, on Iberia, on Europe. Huge thanks to our co-hosts and everyone who joined for a sharp, high-energy discussion (and for providing a stunning setting for the lunch). Atomico SETT Spain Barcelona & Partners Cuatrecasas

Building, not diagnosing.  Grateful to skip another round of diagnosis and instead be part of a discussion on what's actually being built to support scaling Europe's tech ecosystem, with clear evidence of what's working and why, and then getting into concrete scale-up plans for what happens next (with clear timelines and bold targets). Building has to be a constant state. In this market, given the pace and scale of global change, if you're not moving forward at pace, you're going backwards fast. The European Tech Champions Initiative is one example of the art of the possible in moving to action, and also not stopping once it's live. ETCI already moved the needle in Europe's growth investment landscape in its first phase. Now it's scaling much bigger, from €3.5B to  €15B, and, critically, unlocking private institutional capital at scale along the way. Sure, €15B still feels small in a round of €15B funding rounds, but this is action and not talk, and that counts for a lot more in Europe especially. Not that long ago it was just an idea to do something bold that could move the needle in the right direction. A strong example of the "you can just do things" mindset Europe needs much more of. Enjoyed discussing this and more on stage with Marco Marrone (Chief Investment Officer, European Investment Fund (EIF)), Marc Lemaître (Director-General, DG RTD, European Commission, Eliane Schutte (CEO, Xeltis) and Dr. Alexander Blass (VP Strategy, NEURA Robotics), moderated by Alessandro Izzo (Head of Direct Equity, Growth Capital and Structured Finance, European Investment Bank (EIB)). Thank you to the EIB Group for the stage and to Alessandro, Anna Gorzkowska, and Jussi Hätönen for the invitation.

Massive congratulations to Robert and the team at Bird for securing $450 million in financing led by J.P. Morgan to provide liquidity to shareholders, after generating $165 million EBITDA in 2025! More importantly, they continue to ship incredible AI-native products at pace and have been trailblazers in embracing AI themselves, driving both extensive automations internally and as a result lowering prices for their customers. Robert, a heartfelt THANK YOU from all of us at Atomico to both you and the rest of the team for continuing to pursue your mission relentlessly. We are thankful that we have been, and continue to be, a small part of your journey! https://lnkd.in/egRFphSx
