When homes are damaged in conflict, the impact goes far beyond just the building. CARE's shelter teams in Gaza are helping restore homes for women and their families, creating safer living conditions and helping people regain a sense of stability amidst crisis. For Mahla*, returning home meant being able to breathe again after a long period of displacement. It meant having her family under one roof again. It meant dignity was restored. When women lead, we change the world 🧡 Our Head of Individual Giving, Becki Young, travelled to Tanzania to see the impact of our work firsthand. There, she met women like Juliana, whose success hasn't stopped with her own family. She's now sharing her knowledge and helping others build brighter futures too. The programme we visited is supported by a group of nine people based in the UK and France who have been investing in communities in the Shinyanga region for 27 years – first through Oxfam and, for the last four years, through CARE. The changes we witnessed weren't the result of a single project or a short-term intervention. They were built over years of partnership, trust and learning. Swipe to see some glimpses of the trip and read Becki's reflections: https://lnkd.in/eNhraesP #Tanzania

We extend our deepest condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Badr al-Din Omer Musa, a volunteer with one of our partners, the Sudanese Red Crescent Society (SRCS). This tragic loss is a stark reminder of the unacceptable risks faced by humanitarian workers, aid volunteers and healthcare workers across Sudan. The killing of humanitarian personnel, alongside the continued attacks on civilians, civilian infrastructure and health facilities in particular reflects a concerning pattern of International Humanitarian Law (IHL) violations that is putting civilians and those assisting them at grave risks. We call for the protection of civilians and immediate cessation of attacks on critical civilian infrastructure. #AidWorkers #NotATarget #Sudan

⚠️ World Food Programme cutting aid to Gaza due to funding shortages. We are deeply concerned about the impact these cuts will have on families' food security. Since the ceasefire was announced, CARE in partnership with WFP, have provided families with monthly parcels containing flour, dried foods and other staples to 12,000 households each month. Our own staff are living this reality. Some colleagues’ children have required hospital admission and monitoring over concerns about malnutrition. With local food production devastated, families depend on food entering Gaza. Sustained humanitarian assistance, reliable imports and continued support for lifesaving food distributions are critical to their survival. #WFP #Food #Gaza

Today, on #WorldFoodDay, we're thinking of the communities whose lives depend on the land. The climate crisis is making it harder to grow food, access water and recover from extreme weather. Communities around the world are already experiencing this firsthand. Today, and every day, we are standing with communities adapting to these challenges and supporting women leaders who are helping their communities prepare for what's ahead. Here's your reminder of how incredible girls are for #InternationalDayoftheGirl 🧡 In the North of Somalia, many families cannot afford to send their children to school. Halima and Sumaya are being raised by their grandmother who has to choose between feeding her family or educating them. Despite not going to school, the girls have taught themselves to read and write by watching other children and they love learning more than playing. Girls around the world have so much potential. At CARE we want to make sure everyone knows it. #Girls #DayoftheGirl #Girl #Somalia

One year on from the Gaza ceasefire, Palestinians are paying the price of its failure. “More than 1,400 people have been killed since it took effect. Every one of them was a person with a name, a family and a future cut cruelly short. Airstrikes and shelling by the Israeli Government, supported in part by British arms sales, remain the primary cause of these deaths. Israel’s unlawful occupation also means mean women and girls are facing escalating violence, giving birth without medical care, and carrying the overwhelming burden of keeping their families alive, often on their own. The UK Government must immediately halt all arms sales to Israel and ensure aid reaches the women and their communities on the ground fighting to survive.” — Helen McEachern, CEO, CARE International UK

In a crisis, women eat least and last. This is happening in Yemen right now. As the escalation has forced 201,217 from their homes, families are now living in displacement camps with little or no basic services available to them. We've seen time and time again that, when disaster strikes, women are the first to pick up the pieces. To provide for their families even if it means ignoring their own needs. That's why CARE and our partners are working around the world to make sure women are at the centre of all our emergency responses.
