I feel here a bit redundancy. As far as I know, the 3 > drop_caches includes the behavior of sync

@andras.tim no -- sync writes dirty pages to disk, 3 to drop_caches only reclaims / frees memory used by clean pages and other caches. you don't have to run sync but if you do, more memory will be clean instead of dirty and more memory will be freed when you drop caches
