1Excellent query. We made an assumption that the original was a sheet of paper.micap– micap2013-07-31 12:11:55 +00:00Commented Jul 31, 2013 at 12:11

Would the variations in the form factor of the original impact the scope of your question?micap– micap2013-07-31 12:12:35 +00:00Commented Jul 31, 2013 at 12:12

4I don't see a real problem with the book. The problem appears to be that the output is delivered too far away from the input source, moving the focus of attention. You'd be much better off moving the output (which has to move anyway) near the input. E.g. underneath the input, in the space where the line scanner moved, and reachable only by lifting the lid.MSalters– MSalters2013-08-01 07:46:44 +00:00Commented Aug 1, 2013 at 7:46

1I wonder how in the world "studies have shown" "a subconscious effort." Can subconscious things be counted?LarsH– LarsH2013-08-01 13:34:37 +00:00Commented Aug 1, 2013 at 13:34

How to Tag
A tag is a keyword or label that categorizes your question with other, similar questions. Choose one or more (up to 5) tags that will help answerers to find and interpret your question.
- complete the sentence: my question is about...
- use tags that describe things or concepts that are essential, not incidental to your question
- favor using existing popular tags
- read the descriptions that appear below the tag
If your question is primarily about a topic for which you can't find a tag:
- combine multiple words into single-words with hyphens (e.g. website-design), up to a maximum of 35 characters
- creating new tags is a privilege; if you can't yet create a tag you need, then post this question without it, then ask the community to create it for you
