Toy Safety
Attention Parents - Bob the Builder® alert!-
Bob the Builder® products are some of the most sought after in the country by and for children. From toys to books to videos to TV shows, Bob and his friends are always busy doing construction jobs.

While these toys and the like are entertaining, they have, in our opinion, a profound flaw - they fail to emphasize the importance of safety to their most impressionable audience - our next generation of construction workers - our children!

Accordingly, we would highly recommend that you consider very carefully before purchasing any of the "Bob the Builder®" series of toys, books, and videos, for your children.

After all, Bob is a construction worker who, in the majority of cases, along with his co-workers, conducts their work without safety glasses.

It is our opinion that this makes children believe that safety glasses, and safety in general, are not important facets of construction work.

The books about Bob the Builder® do not emphasize worker safety and frequently show Bob working without proper safety attire.

If you are walking through a store, and your child happens to ask for a Bob the Builder® toy, use the fact that Bob's creators failed to emphasize safety as the reason why you won't purchase the product.

Builder Bob without safety glasses
Point out the fact that Bob does not wear safety glasses, and thus his eyes will not be protected. Use yourselves as an example - "When we (mom and/or dad) work with power tools and hammers, we wear safety glasses to protect our eyes."

The FPSI contacted Playskool Corporation's consumer division and spoke to them about this problem shortly after they introduced the product the market. We have yet to hear back from them.

Choose your children's toys wisely!
