This is NOT to be a policitally charged post, and i urge Ivan to delete any comments that might be politically motivated, derogatory or anything else of the sorts. I'm posting this to show how research can prove important.
Here's the new republican national convention logo:

Over the last few years the media has really pushed one concept, the republican party is represented in red, and the democratic party in blue.
what do the racing stripe/prison bars mean?
Elephants, other then at a circus, only tend to stand on hind legs when having sexual intercourse. This the party of sexual scandals, which ironically some of them are going to prison, maybe that explains the stripes. The other irony, this is being held in Minneapolis, 7 miles from the airport that Larry Craig got busted in for trying to solicit gay sex from an undercover cop.
Though I know it's a symbol of american history/pride/identity, a star representing the eye in a drawing has OFTEN represented the idea that the person/animal is dead. Not a good idea to show your mascot as being dead....
Since when does the republican mascot of an elephant have tusks like a mammoth?
The lesson : do your research before you make a logo, and then do it again before you release that to the public.
Note: motivation for this thread is thanks to Keith Olbermann.

Check out skitch, a Max OS X application, that is only available with an invite at this stage. It's like the free ImageWell application on steroids. It not only allows you to create quick screenshots and edit them, but also gives you server space and a platform to store those images online so you can view them on your skitch page (here is mine). Alternatively you can embed them into your blog or forum post. And, of course I'll give away the invites I have. I got only 2 so far, so please drop a comment if you want one.

Hi everyone, i've got a question about modes.
When I create artwork for a document, I start in Photoshop. I work in RGB because of the filters and the look I want to get. However, my Indesign document and Illustrator assets are all in CMYK. So, I go back to my Photoshop file and change the image mode to CMYK. Now the problem is, it looks completely different and awful. The blacks are not black and the effects are all muted. I guess this is because the monitor is RGB that is why I see it like that.
My problem or situation now is:
1. When I create my pdf in Indesign for screen viewing, I have to convert my destination to working-RGB profile, right? Otherwise my pdfs look muted. In fact that is what I had to do today to get it look good on screen.
2. If I package or send a print version pdf, what happens to that Photoshop image that looked good in RGB, but now looks crappy in CMYK mode? My printer is far away and I can't really go there for a test print everytime I change something. Does it print like the quality I get when I see the Photoshop file in RGB mode?
Hope I don't sound too confusing, any thoughts? Thanks.
Jacky
Use the Eye Dropper tool to sample any color on your screen by clicking and dragging from your document to anywhere on your screen, even outside of Photoshop.

I have 5 invites to Mailplane, the MacOS X desktop gmail app. Let me know in comments if you need one. No need to give an email address, I can take it from your profile.
I tried it for about 10 minutes and I can't say I'm awed. It's a good idea and should be supported for further development for sure. We need to merge more online and desktop applications for the ultimate user experience.
Update: 0 left.
I am going into a totally unrelated field from what I graduated with (business degree) and I was wondering what the best approach you took or what you did. Any sharing experience would be helpful. Thanks.
I know this is a Mac focused site, but I couldn't pass up the chance to share this with everyone. It seems Microsoft is offering their top of the line collection -Office Ultimate- for the insanely cheap price of $59.95! Yes, $59.95!!!
The only catches (besides the fact it's only for Windows) are that you need to be a student and have an email address from your school ending in .edu.

*UPDATE* - I hear you guys! I wish Adobe included this feature in every program they make, but unfortunately, they don't; however, they DO include it in After Effects, Lightroom, Premiere Pro and Soundbooth (all CS3 versions). So, if you use any of these programs, make sure you take advantage of this great feature.

Have you ever wanted to make adjustments on the fly? There are several ways to resize things such as indents for paragraphs, but here's one you may not be aware of. If you place your cursor right next to the box where you would normally enter a value, you will get a finger with a left/right pointing arrow, clicking on it and dragging left or right will increase/decrease the value. It works just about anywhere you would enter a value. Try it out!

John Nack, Adobe's vocal Photoshop guru, has spilled the beans on Adobe's new Photoshop branding efforts with the announcement of their new logo and tag line.
Before everyone gets their hair up, you should note that they did NOT announce that they're changing the Photoshop icon, they're simply tying all their Photoshop products together for marketing purposes.
That being said, I don't like it. I don't mind the slogan at all. But why, with all the money and talent that Adobe has, did they settle for yet another stupid speech bubble, Web 2.0-style logo? What does the speech bubble have to do with Photoshop?
