Members of the redevelopment agency identified a list of road projects to be completed during a 10-year period. The first segment, of this three-stage project, is slated to be completed by November.
The road improvements have been identified in eight areas. These areas include: Park Street east, from Main Street to Bobby Green Plaza; Park Street west, from Main Street to PK Avenue; East Lake Avenue, from Main Street to Bridgers Avenue; Howard Street, from Main Street to Orange Street; Bobby Green Plaza, from Main Street to PK Avenue; Bennett Street, from Stadium Road to Bridgers Avenue; Orange Street, from Bridgers Avenue to Bobby Green Plaza; and Polk Street, from Main Street to Bennett Street.
"This is going to be one of the three milling and resurfacing projects identified by the CRA," said Andy Stewart, assistant to the city manager. "In the past, we have only been able to resurface the streets. This will take off all the layers (of the road) and bring back the original curb. This will help with a lot of the drainage problems. A lot of times, when you get your curb back, heavy rains will not come over the curb and flood."
Originally the redevelopment agency had budgeted the project to cost $200,000. However, once bids were received, agency members were able to do the project and save $2,000.
Bids were approved Monday night for Central Florida Hot-Mix to complete the project for $198,000.
These projects are expected to be completed fairly quickly, possibly lasting only three to four days, Stewart said.
The final two segments of the projects are scheduled to be completed by 2008 and are anticipated to encompass the entire redevelopment district.
