RATFINK

RATFINK is a library of Tcl routines for generating RTF (Microsoft Rich Text Format) output, plus a Cost script for converting SGML to RTF. RATFINK is free software.

There are still a few features missing, but hopefully this package will be useful.

The HTML and RTF versions of the manual were generated from a common SGML source document. The stylesheet definition and Cost translation script used to generate the RTF version are available as examples. The PostScript version was generated from the RTF version using Microsoft (R) Word 97 for Windows 95.

Limitations

Only supports the ASCII (ISO 646 IRV) character set.

RATFINK does not currently include any direct support for WINHELP format RTF output.

Pictures, and a few other useful features are not supported. Table support is currently beta-quality.

...RATFINK is not an acronym.

It does however describe my opinion of the programmers at Microsoft who designed this abysmal file format.
