What is APA Format?

APA Format is a guide to writing student papers, writing articles for journal publishing, and citing references appropriately, as described in the APA Publication Manual. The manual is available in libraries and bookstores and may be ordered online.

If you quote or refer to anyone else's ideas in your paper, whether from print sources, media or the Internet, it is essential to cite them according to established citation format. Failure to do so is plagiarism and a violation of copyright law. At Lesley University, many programs in the School of Education and the Graduate School of Arts & Social Sciences require that references in student papers follow APA Format.
