sexiest movies of all time

I love a sexy movie… who doesn’t? Turn the lights off, have a few glasses of wine - makes for a good evening in. Watch it alone (close the blinds, grab the bullet), or with someone else (you may not last long enough to see the end of the movie if you pick this option - if you know what I mean).

Here are my picks for the hottest movies of all time:

9 1/2 Weeks: My all time FAVOURITE. Mickey Rourke is the hottest thing alive at the time this film was made. He might just be my biggest fantasy - the younger version that is, these days he’s really working the creepy angle well. The scene where he and Kim Basinger fuck under the drain pipe in the rain - wow. And Ms. Basinger is pretty smoking in this movie - I would probably take her down too. I fully plan on re-enacting her striptease routine with the men’s shirt one day… now just need to find someone worthy enough to see it.

Basic Instinct: This is the obvious choice. The game that Michael Douglas and Sharon Stone play is so intriguing and sensual. I love their dance together in the nightclub - hot.

Henry & June: Set in Paris, this is the story of Anais Nin, one of the most provocative writers of all time, and her relationship with couple Henry and June. This is the first film to receive an NC-17 rating and it was actually banned in South Africa - I think that says it all.

uggs do or don’t?

We’ve all seen them on the celebs and we probably all own a pair, right? Uggs originated in AUS and NZ and have been very popular internationally for the past ten years. Whose to blame or take credit for this? Well the Ugg boot became immensely popular in N.A. after Oprah added the Ultra Boot to her favorite things list… need I say more?

Was the Ugg boot ever really in style? Or is it a crime of comfort?

Every winter I break down, put on my Uggs, and trek out of my igloo. The best is when you wear them with your Lululemon workout pants. I’d probably be shot dead with insults wearing that combo in Paris or London.

Or would I? What are your thoughts? Should this trend be put to rest, once and for all? Well, someone answered my prayers because check this out the new and somewhat improved Ugg Australia Fall 2008 Collection.

friday dance party: ode to disco nights

Does anybody remember when Tuesday nights were the new Saturday nights? When vintage stores sold out of 70’s gear? When there was a line up longer than the Roxy’s on the weekends trailing down Granville and Smithe? When cover was only $5 and coat check was by donation?

Let me re-introduce (or perhaps introduce) Disco Tronic, aka Disco Night, at the Commodore…

Those were the best years of my life. No joke. Two solid years where I never missed a Tuesday at the Commodore. Every time I went shopping, it was with disco on my mind - how can I make next week’s outfit even better than the last? I had sequins, feathers, flared pants, zebra print, sparkles, big sunglasses, weird hats, beads, platform heels, short shorts, socks to my knees, bikini tops… and the list goes on and on. I did it all. Boogie Nights, Studio 54, Last Days of Disco. There were cowboys, sailors, construction men, police officers, roller skates, moustaches, John Travolta’s and Porn Cops . No club kids, no club hoes, no bar stars. Just people dressing up and having a good time. No pretensions.

I had my regular crew out each week. We would only have to hug Tony the bouncer hello and he would wave us through, past the 100 deep line. We were on a first name basis with all the bartenders, the dj’s - DJ Chiclet and MC Velvet K, and the host - Dr. Peter, the Dr. of Love. The stage was regulated… you were chosen to dance up there. The Sugar Cookie Dancers ruled the Funktastic Shark Cages. People madeout in the Love Bed, there were no inhibitions. As soon as you walked up those stairs, you were in a different world and were somebody else.

It’s been years, perhaps 7, since Disco Night was at the Commodore. They tried to do it at another club but it wasn’t the same. I miss it like I miss an old friend. There has never been a club night that has topped it and I doubt there ever will.

Can somebody please bring this back?!

So, in honour of Discotronic, I present to you… disco…

(Dedicated to my Disco All-Stars… you know who you are.)

artist profile: dianne bos

I discovered an amazing photographer last weekend while wandering through Yaletown. I’ve decided that I need to broaden my horizons in Vancouver, try new things and become more cultural. My latest: cruising art galleries.

I found a wonderful gallery at 1070 Homer Street (next to the Book Warehouse), the Jennifer Kostuik Gallery. The space is so fresh and white and is filled with amazing artwork. My eyes were instantly drawn to a piece leaning against the wall - an image of Paris (surprised?). So beautiful. I want it and have to have it. Unfortunately, my bank account wouldn’t agree with the price tag.

The artist’s name is Dianne Bos. She specializes in photography with a pin-hole camera and has loads of pieces centered around Paris and Europe. I have fallen instantly in love with her work. Check out her website and you’ll see exactly what I mean.

eyebrows gone wrong

» by Star Anise in: beauty

Day in and day out, I sit facing a woman with terrible terrible eyebrows. Let me describe them for you… They are over-plucked, messy, too long, badly shaped - they are a combination of the ones on the top and the third down in the image to the right… only, somehow worse. I wish that someone would tell her - perhaps slip her an anonymous note. They do absolutely nothing for her. Am I being too harsh? Maybe… but this is one of my pet peeves. And women aren’t the only offenders. Men - please remove those nasty mono-brows. They aren’t doing you any favours.

It’s really not that difficult to maintain your eyebrows. It’s easy. There are plenty of step by step instructions on-line. Check out NZ Girl for tips on plucking. There are also inexpensive professionals you can visit. I go to Silky Touch at 41st and Fraser Street in Vancouver. Only $5 to get your brows shaped and threaded. While you’re there, remove that upper lip hair creeping up on you.

Who has the best eyebrows around? I vote for Keira Knightley. They’re natural but well kept.  Perfect… a modern spin on the Brooke Shields.

polyamorous relationships

Recently, Star and I posted on married men and monogamy. This post was met with a lot of criticism - which is actually refreshing, sadly the critics were mostly female… which may reinforce our findings. However, our main goal of this article was to point out that the ’status quo marriage’ may be changing. When couples get married, their partner may evolve into wanting different than what they originally signed up for in their nuptuals… (Note: divorce rates have doubled).

I’ve been approached to spend the night by a few married men, as well as married couples. I expect this trend will continue to grow as society becomes more and more anti-establishment. Either way, together you both need to keep things spicy in and out of the bedroom.

I think this subject is extremely interesting and I’m going to spend some time researching other countries and what the current trend in sex and marriage is.

What do you think? Should marriage continue to be a partnership, one on one style? Or should the next few generations continue to redefine the vows?

Great write up from a partner in a Polyamorous relationship at The Frisky.
