Citizen Science: Tracking Climate Change (broadcast Friday, March 6th, 2009)

Is your pond ice-free this earlier year? Are the spring flowers poking out of the ground at a different time than they used to? Have you heard bird songs that don't belong? A consortium of researchers is asking the public to help track signs of a changing climate by monitoring phenophases, the recurring plant and animal life cycle events that mark the changing of the seasons. We'll talk with one of the founders of the National Phenology Network about the project. Teachers, find more information about using Science Friday as a classroom resource in the Kids' Connection.
