Notes on loss At 21.48 hours on 27 May, 1940, the Uruguay was sunk with scuttling charges by U-37 about 160 miles from Cape Villano after she was stopped with a shot across her bow and her papers were examined. The ship had been missed with a G7a torpedo at 21.12 hours.
