Cecil's

600 West Gray
Houston, TX 77019
713-527-9101
The inside of Cecil’s feels more like the trailer park home of an affable drunk than a West Gray boozing joint. The lights are always dimmed low, except for the bar which seems to give off a warming glow of dark whiskey and other lubricious liquids against the rows of dim bulbs. There is a small television nook to the left of the bar complete with a worn-in couch, perfect for lazing the night away after a day spent in the high-rise salt mines down the street. You can hide and not be seen if that’s your bag, inside a darkened booth, or you can hold court on the spacious patio. The jukebox oozes with old punk rock and other required roots selections to soundtrack your pool-sharking or dart-throwing ways. Somewhere inside the bar, the ghost of Bill Hicks, the bar’s most famous patron, is riffing on all the hipsters walking by and smoking to his dark heart’s content.

Watch out for the flying pool cues. Other than that, this place is great.
