St. Mary’s Orthodox Syrian Church, Niranam, popularly known as Niranam Valiyapally, is a parish under the Niranam diocese of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church.  This church was founded by St. Thomas (Mar Thoma), the Apostle of Jesus Christ, in AD 54.  The present building, supposedly the fourth, was constructed in 1912 and was reinforced during the year 2000.  Among the attractions at the church are a huge Cross made of granite, relics of St. Thomas, remnants of the old church, the golden cross etc. More »

  Fr. Philip Thomas (Saji Achan) Passes away

  The Patriarch of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahido Church His Holiness Abuna Paulose is expected to visit the Niranam Church on 30th December 2008. His Holiness is visiting Malankara Orthodox Church, in connection with the centenary celebrations of MGOCSM, being held at Parumala Church.
 

St. Thomas was the apostle who chose to travel to the farthest and remotest areas for his missionary works. He was speared on December 19 (AD 72)
and he entered martyrdom on December 21.
St. Thomas, pray for us.

Indian Orthodox Church
Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church of India was established in A. D. 52, when Apostle St. Thomas travelled Kerala, preaching Gospel. Though St. Thomas Christians (Syrian Christians) have moved to various denominations, the parental body - Indian Orthodox Church - maintained its independent nature and is headed by the Catholicos of the Apostolic Throne of St. Thomas, Moran Mar Baselius Marthoma Mathews II. Headquartered at Devalokam, Kottayam, India, the Church follows Syrian liturgies and the traditions are based on Indian culture. MGOCSM
Mar Gregorious Orthodox Christian Students' Movement is the students' wing of Indian Orthodox Church. It is an autonomous body, functioning with the motto �Worship, Study, Service'. A very active unit of MGOCSM has been serving at the parish, for about 18 years. The Niranam Valiapally unit has active involvement in the worship at the church and meets every Sunday after the Holy Mass. The student members, with the support of the parish priests and senior members conduct various academic and service activities. More »
 
Niranam
Niranam is a beautiful village situated in the delta of rivers Pampa and Manimala: part of Thiruvalla taluk and Pathanamthitta district. This is a typical Keralite agricultural village, full of paddy fields and coconut trees. Historically, Niranam has been famous for the missionary work of St. Thomas, the Niranam Poets and the Golden Cross etc.
Some famous personalities in the modern age include K. C. Mammen Mappilai who was Chief Editor of Malayala Manorama daily, Late Ex. Ministers of State John Philipose and John Jacob of Elanjickal family. More »
