Smash’s Megan Hilty on Playing Marilyn Monroe

Feb 13, 2012 @ 6:30 pm

Ivy Lynn (Megan Hilty) and Karen Cartwright (Katharine McPhee) are both vying for the role of Marilyn Monroe on tonight’s episode of Smash, and we caught with Hilty at New York Fashion Week to get the inside scoop on what it’s like to channel the icon. “It’s so much fun,” Hilty said of playing Monroe. “At first it’s a little terrifying, taking on something like that, but I get to hide behind my character a little bit. I can say ‘Oh, Ivy Lynn is playing Marilyn.’” Catch Smash tonight at 10/9c on NBC. Tell us: Are you Team Ivy or Team Karen?

Runway Looks We Love: Zac Posen

Feb 13, 2012 @ 4:25 pm

Zac Posen channeled Japanese inspiration for his fall 2012 collection, showing off looks in colors like imperial blue and Tokyo red. Obi belts cinched kimono-sleeved tops, while Judith Leiber created minaudières shaped like cats and pagodas. Posen also collaborated with Illesteva for sunglasses and Manolo Blahnik for footwear. Coco Rocha closed the show in a black and blue jacquard bustier gown that filled the entire runway, a look sure to land on a Hollywood actress sometime soon. Super Bowl Fashion: Nicki Minaj and M.I.A. Designers’ Surprising Reaction!

Feb 13, 2012 @ 4:10 pm

Over 111.35 million viewers tuned in to watch the Super Bowl last Sunday, but Erickson Beamon’s Karen Erickson and Vicki Beamon, who designed Nicki Minaj and M.I.A.‘s elaborate half-time show headpieces, had other things on their minds. We caught up with the duo at their fall 2012 presentation to ask them what it felt like to see their jewelry on the most-watched show in TV history, and they seemed surprisingly unfazed. “I was busy working on this,” Karen Erickson said, referring to Erickson Beamon’s new ready-to-wear line. “What I did I did, and now it’s about what I’m going to do.” Vicki Beamon had a slightly more excited reaction. “We kind of knew it was going to happen,” she told InStyle.com. “We had a really big year.”

Take a closer look at the 2012 Grammys red carpet last night, and you’ll spot some of not-to-miss creative manicures. Keeping in theme with her Scarface-inspired Armani gown, Rihanna’s manicurist Kimmie Kyees gave the singer Red Carpet Manicure’s gel polish in the shade Amor 24, then added a gold dollar sign to her pinky nail. Adele took home her six new Grammys with couture claws, using Ciaté’s holographic silver on top and crimson underneath to mimic her sparkly Christian Louboutin heels. Meanwhile, Katy Perry worked a blue French manicure, and Lady Gaga chose long metallic grey talons. Get a closer look at their nails in the gallery, and see more chic Grammy manicures right now!
