Two men facing 30 charges in connection with a Newark pot club raided by federal agents last year struck a plea bargain Thursday, admitting guilt to reduced charges while avoiding jail time and paying a six-figure fine.

NEWARK — A one-alarm fire damaged the garage of a residence Wednesday afternoon, an Alameda County fire official said.No injuries were reported, Battalion Chief Kris Kerstetter said.  

Police described the suspect as a white man in his late 40s, 6-foot-2, blue eyes, short brown-and-gray hair, and a thin build.

Former Newark Police Chief Ray Samuels, who came out against the death penalty after decades in law enforcement, has died, officials announced Saturday. He was 60 years old.  

Authorities are looking for a 27-year-old man who fled the scene of a head-on collision Thursday as he was being pursued by police and escaped on foot while officers searched the area for nearly five hours.
