Music Festival-Inspired Beauty: Crazy for Coachella

The biggest music festival of the year is currently in full swing (last weekend marked the first half of the shows), so in honor of all the fun and festivities, I’ve narrowed down my picks for making it through a warm, wild weekend. Even if you’re not lounging and shimmying in the grass over in Indio, these products are ideal for any summer escapades that require an easier approach.

1. Stila Sparkle Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner in Bora Bora: Your eyes should shine, especially if you opt to keep all else simple. A flick of Stila’s stay-put liner in glittering turquoise will amp up your look in seconds flat.
At Sephora for $22.

2. Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray: It gets hot and sweaty when you’re reveling for days in the Southern California desert! Who wants to take time to shampoo? This versatile spray acts as both a dry shampoo and a volumizing texturizer.
At Neiman Marcus for $39.

3. Deborah Lippmann Nail Lacquer in Private Dancer: Deborah’s latest formula is “mirrored chrome,” so there’s nothing too private about this bold polish! But just right for dancing, it definitely is.
At Neiman Marcus for $18.

4. Laura Mercier Lip Stain: Notice how stains can get dry and puckery? Not this one. This pot is full of moisturizing sheen; think of it as a balm that stains your lips.
At Neiman Marcus for $20.

5. Bobbi Brown Foundation Stick: You’re probably not going to be interested in coating your face in foundation (I know I’m not!), but you’ll want to even out your complexion and touch up any blemishes. This on-the-go stick is the ideal compromise, whether you dot a spot or use it all over.
At Sephora for $41.

The Shops at Target: Cos Bar (and a Giveaway!)

Target does not stop! The latest twist on its designer partnership model comes in the form of The Shops at Target, which will officially launch on May 6th. Through the program Target will partner directly with shop owners of specialty stores and local boutiques to co-create affordable, limited-edition collections. The ones I’m most exciting for are The Webster (a fantastic super high-end boutique in Miami) for fashion and Cos Bar for beauty. I visited my first Cos boutique back when I was in Charleston and couldn’t believe how well curated their selection was (how are they not in Manhattan yet!??). Cos stocks body care, bath accessories, beauty tools, and bags from a slew of luxury brands (check them out here). The boutique owners say they were inspired by their signature gift wrap for the bright leopard print featured across the beauty tools and bags of their collection for Target, while bath and body products reflect their favorite scents. Everything in the line retails for under $20 and includes body care products, bath accessories, beauty tools, manicure essentials, and cosmetic bags.

The collection may not launch until next month, but 10 Beauty Snob readers will win a bundle of products! All you have to do is leave a comment below and we will select 10 winners at random on April 25th, 2012. U.S. residents only please.

Soleil Organique Environmental Defense Hand Cream: You’re in Good Hands

I am starting to get a little obsessive about how my hands look, or to be exact, how my hands need to stop aging. It really is true that hands show your true age. I have hand creams galore, but none with sunscreen protection. Until now.

Soleil Organique Environmental Defense hand cream contains titanium dioxide, a non-penetrating mineral filler that provides protection against UVA rays (they cause long-term cell damage) and UVB rays (which cause burning). Added to that are: Red Algae, Vitamin C Ester, and Vitamin E to boost SPF, maintain skin firmness, reduce brown spots and wrinkles, and keep hands smooth and silky. Sounds like a dream cream to me.

I keep this hand cream gem in my bag at all times, especially when I am driving and can’t hide my hands from the sun. I love the natural ingredients (it also has chamomile, shea butter, and aloe vera juice), and it’s gluten-free to boot – not that I have a problem with it on my skin, but you never know! If my tummy doesn’t like it, then the largest organ on my body could probably do without it, too. At Soleil Organique for $32.

On the Coral Train: Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment SPF 15

Tangerine may be the color of the year, but coral is definitely the color of the season. The color is a must for beauty according to Sonia Kashuk, for fashion according to Michelle Smith of Milly, and nails according to Deborah Lippmann, all of whom I’ve spoken to recently. Of course bright colors aren’t for everyone and I still love the original the best, but if you’re looking to work a little peach into your look Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment SPF 15 in Coral ($22.50) might be just the option for you. While it’s not billed as a lipstick the color is pretty saturated so it can easily double as one (though it’s more sheer than most coral lipstick – perfect if you’re easing your way into bolder hues). Also, because it’s moisturizing you can build coverage without worrying about dehydrating your lips and the SPF 15 is great now that temperatures are heating up. Best of all, it’s not at all sticky!

Lolita-Inspired Beauty: Renewed Innocence

Perhaps the most controversial book of the twentieth century not only disturbs with its portrayal of one deeply disturbed dude – Lolita has become an inevitable style icon. The title character of Vladimir Nabokov’s groundbreaking 1955 novel was actually not a natural beauty, per se, but the girl had loads of allure. Sure, at a mere 12-years-old she wasn’t wearing a lot of makeup, but that’s just what makes her look so perfect for the summertime. Lighten up, and go girlish!

1. Vincent Longo Lip and Cheek Gel Stain: A Popsicle-stained pout is paramount to youthful appeal. You might not be one for indulging in fruity frozen treats, but an easy gel stain is universally flattering.
On Amazon for $22.50.

2. Lancôme Hypnôse Doll Lashes Mascara: No eyeliner necessary. Just a wide-eyed, long-lashed look courtesy of jet-black mascara formulated to make you look like a living doll.
On Amazon for $19.39.

3. Estée Lauder Pure Color Blush: A rosy glow emanates health and youth. Estée Lauder’s is made with True Vision technology, so this flush lasts all day long.
At Saks Fifth Avenue for $28.

4. Guerlain Terracotta Light Sheer Bronzing Powder: Lolita was rarely without a tan, as she loved lounging in the grass and bathing in the sun. You can achieve the appearance of sun-kissed skin with a brush of Guerlain’s trademark compact.
At Sephora for $50.

5. Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Pur Glossy Lip Stain: Evening occasions demand more than a “naturally” stained lip. YSL’s newest addition is perfect. This hybrid product delivers long-lasting lacquered shine.
At Saks Fifth Avenue for $32.

Travel in Style: Oribe Beautiful Color Travel Set

I’m psyched about the coming weeks because I have three fun 3-5 day trips planned. First up I’ll be heading to Lenox to stay at Canyon Ranch. It was going to be an early birthday present to myself, but then my dad saw their website, noticed that it’s very close to Cranwell’s golf course, and told me that if I don’t mind him joining he’ll pay for it and we can drive up in his Maserati…will I ever meet a man that can live up to my father!?? Shortly thereafter I’m heading to Vegas (haven’t been since I was 12!), and then to Ithaca for my five year Cornell reunion. Needless to say there will be lots of packing in a very short amount of time, but I can already put a check-mark next to haircare thanks to Oribe’s Beautiful Color Travel Set ($19.50).

The travel and gym-friendly set includes six dual packettes of Shampoo and Conditioner for Beautiful Color and one dual packette of Shampoo and Masque for Beautiful Color, all housed in a swanky envelope-like box. I’ve written about Oribe’s Beautiful Color hair range before. It’s my favorite. Not only do I like the packaging better than anything else I’ve seen, but the formulation is fantastic…trust! The Masque is especially magical for hydrating, imparting shine, and detangling even if you’ve got knotty long hair like I do. If only the decisions involved with packing clothing were this easy!

Benefit The POREfessional: Seek Professional Help

I have fairly good skin, but sebaceous glands around my nose, chin and forehead area have caused noticeable pores. I don’t like powder (too, well, powdery and unnatural), and I find grease-blotting papers to leave a weird film, so I was excited to receive a tube of The POREfessional from Benefit Cosmetics. Benefit has been on a winning streak as of late, and I have to say this balm delivers as promised. It is lightweight and translucent, and pores literally disappear immediately. The texture, however, is kind of strange, and I am worried about the ingredients listed on the back of the box. I don’t recognize any of them, except silica and titanium dioxide/iron oxide. The rest of the list looks quite frightening (I don’t like the word triethoxycaprylsilane, for example!). A doctor friend once told me the longer the word, the worse the chemical. So I’ll be using this very sparingly around my nose area, and probably only for photos! At Sephora for $29.

Travalo Easy-Refill Travel Atomizer: On-the-Move Mist

One of the best jetsetter accoutrements is a travel-sized atomizer. You don’t want to risk spilling or breaking your entire bottle of perfume, but it’s a bummer to go on a trip without your trademark scent. This cute, little one by Travalo solves the problem, and it’s especially convenient.

It’s easy to fill up: you just pull off the spray top and expose the white straw-like thing. There is a nozzle underneath the Travalo, which you insert into the white straw; just keep it there until the desired amount is filled. You only need to put a very small portion for it to work and for you to have enough perfume to keep you smelling like your best self on your trip. We use less in a spritz than we think!

It comes in a variety of colors, from girly pink to discreet black, and it’s most definitely under 3 ounces, so it’s TSA-friendly. This is so simple and handy, it’s also nice to also keep in your tote for everyday, since most perfumes never seem to last as long as they should anyway. On Amazon for $10.85-12.52.
