Rihanna’s “Where Have You Been” Makeup: All the Details

May 4, 2012 @ 5:45 pm

Rihanna’s new music video for “Where Have You Been” debuted this week, and the pop star experimented with some bold beauty looks for the clip. The person behind her tribal-inspired style is star makeup artist Kabuki, who recently honed his music video makeup skills on the set of “E.T.” by Katy Perry. “I wanted to feel the heat of that environment,” Kabuki told InStyle.com of the jungle setting Rihanna created for the video. “I used golds and coppers and reds to keep that feeling. I wanted to give Rihanna’s look a slight tribal nod while keeping things young and sexy.” And that’s not all! Click through the gallery for more behind-the-scenes makeup details from Kabuki.

Metallic Chrome Nail Polishes: Where to Find Them!

May 3, 2012 @ 5:11 pm

Chanel’s Peridot Nail Lacquer was an instant hit after launching last fall, and we can see why! The dynamic green is basically a mood ring in a bottle, and the teal and gold shimmer gives each nail a different look depending where the light hits. Now, other companies are following suit and releasing similar lacquers with a dynamic shimmer effect. The new metallic chrome colors range from subtle neutrals to high-impact purples. See some of our favorites in the gallery!

May 3, 2012 @ 11:00 am

The ombre trend is far from over! For proof, just look to Miley Cyrus. While the star had a pretty two-tone color since March, she updated her look yesterday with a cinnamon ginger hue after paying a visit to Los Angeles hairstylist Glenn Nutley. (She even tweeted a photo of herself mid-shampoo!) Cyrus’s latest version is a light auburn gradation with sunny blond tips. Do you like her new look? Tell us in the comments below!

New in Stores: Dita Von Teese’s First Perfume

May 2, 2012 @ 3:46 pm

Dita Von Teese’s first fragrance is now in stores! The star teamed up with Liberty of London to create her Old Hollywood-inspired scent. “I often thought about the great women that I admire like Marlene Dietrich or Hedy Lamarr—those sexy, glamorous, iconic women, and I couldn’t imagine them ever smelling like fruits or candy,” she said in an interview with the label. “I wanted something that speaks of wanting to be grown-up, a sophisticated woman who is in charge of her life.” Von Teese’s scent is a seductive blend of Bulgarian rose and peony, with undertones of spicy Bourbon pepper and smoky wood. Pick up a bottle exclusively at liberty.co.uk for $42.

Celebrity Nail Polish Trend to Try: Pretty Pastels

May 2, 2012 @ 1:00 pm
Pastel Nail Polish - Jessica AlbaGetty images (3)

One easy way to wear spring’s big pastel trend is on your nails. This week, Jessica Alba dressed up her look with a lilac mani, Michelle Trachtenberg wore a seafoam lacquer, and Ginnifer Goodwin added a pop of color to her LBD with a robin’s egg blue. “I just loved that it was a blue that doesn’t make my hands look dead,” the actress told InStyle.com of why she picked the hue. We love how the shades are soft and feminine without being fussy. Plus, they flatter every skin tone and pack a lot of punch when worn with contrasting hues. When opting for this lighter look, remember to keep your finishes in mind—ultra-glossy top coats create a high-fashion feel, while a jeweled glitter swipe adds a touch of sparkle. Just be sure to steer clear of matte polishes—the lack of shine makes the colors chalky with a Wite-Out-esque appearance. For more celebrity manicure ideas, click through the gallery now.

Emily VanCamp’s Must-Have Beauty Products

May 2, 2012 @ 12:00 pm

Winter weather may have hit the Hamptons last week on Revenge, but off-screen Emily VanCamp likes to keep her summer glow all year-round with the help of makeup artist Rosie Johnston. “Emily is so young and beautiful, so it’s important that her skin always looks radiant,” Johnston told InStyle.com. “These days makeup tends to be on the heavy side, so I prefer to give her a sun-kissed, natural glow.” Johnston said she keeps Van Camp’s skin radiant and hydrated with Leila Lou’s fresh-smelling body lotion ($28; b-glowing.com), and creates a glowy complexion with a quick swipe of Murad’s Absolute Bronzing Boost ($38; murad.com). Catch an all-new episode of Revenge tonight at 10/9c on ABC.
