Dior Has a New Top Designer: Raf Simons

Apr 9, 2012 @ 2:00 pm

Back in February, the label Jil Sander announced its forward-thinking creative director since 2005, Raf Simons, would be stepping down. Many in the fashion industry—including us—were left to ponder where the Belgian wunderkind would land. But not anymore! The talent is taking over the top spot at Christian Dior, a position that Dior executives have been trying to fill since last March when then-designer John Galliano was dismissed for inappropriate conduct. “Mr. Christian Dior has always been for me the most inspiring couturier,” Simons said in a statement. “I am truly humbled and honored to become artistic director of the most celebrated French house in the world.” We can’t wait to see what he does for Dior! And which celebrities will wear his creations! His first collection will debut this July during Haute Couture Fashion Week in Paris.

First Look: Thakoon for NARS Nail Polish Collection

Apr 6, 2012 @ 12:35 pm

Francois Nars and designer Thakoon Panichgul—whose fans include Rachel Bilson, Jessica Alba and Michelle Obama—are frequent collaborators, working together during New York Fashion Week. This season they’ve developed a limited-edition, six-color nail polish collection, making it the first nail collaboration NARS has ever done with a fashion designer. Inspired by the vibrant colors found in Indian Spice Markets, each shade is named after a spice or medicinal plant, including Koliary (cyan blue) and Anardana (azalea pink). The high-gloss hues are long-wearing, chip-resistant, formaldehyde-free and come in eye-popping brights just right for spring. Click through the gallery to preview the entire collection now, and shop them for $18 each at narscosmetics.com starting May 1st.

The Craziest/Best Shoes We’re Obsessed With Right Now

Apr 5, 2012 @ 12:20 pm

We’re obsessed with shoes. No, we mean really, really, really obsessed. And if money were no object, then we’d fill our closet with hundreds (thousands, maybe?) of showstoppers, including these. That’s why we’ve rounded up some of our favorites in stores now, including pairs by Manolo Blahnik, Brian Atwood, Versace, and Balenciaga. Ogle them all in the gallery and find out exactly why each pair piqued our interest. Just ignore the price tag.

The Marc Jacobs empire is expanding! The designer announced today that he’s working with Sephora to debut a line of makeup. “The idea of choosing a color for your lip, or an eyeliner—it’s just such a delight,” the designer told WWD. And, if his runway shows are anything to go by, we’re expecting bold brow pencils and high-octane lipsticks. Although there’s no word on a launch date yet, Jacobs’s new scent, Dot, hits stores in July.
