Subway Ad: ‘Offer Your Seat To Pregnant Women, But Not If They’re Wearing Red Sox Hats’

Sports talk show hosts Boomer Esiason and Craig Carton had no trouble fueling the ugly stereotype that sportscasters can be crude, sexist neanderthals, with a new subway ad that had us as perplexed as we were irritated.
An NYC subway ad for their station, WFAN, features the two guys posing beside the words, “Always offer your seat to a pregnant woman. Unless she’s wearing a Red Sox hat.” There are no limitations on aggression in the war between Red Sox lovers and Yankees fans, but there’s nothing even remotely humorous about this ad, which will only appeal to cretins such as the mastermind behind the display. The blogger who spotted this embarrassing piece of marketing put it best, albeit slightly incoherently: “there is no ‘unless’ dumbasses…this is a 1953 joke…doesn’t work in 2012.”
