Emily Blunt is ready to fight the future — and help Tom Cruise fight the never-ending present.

The "Wolfman" woman is set to take on space aliens as she joins Cruise in director Doug Liman's sci-fi thriller, "All You Need is Kill," according to Variety.

"All You Need is Kill," based on the Japanese graphic novel written by Hiroshi Sakurazaka, follows Cruise as a soldier in a war against an alien invasion who gets killed during his first day in action. He's then forced, "Groundhog Day"-style, to relive that day over and over, hoping that his increased skills and training will help break him out of the loop. Blunt will be playing the role of Valkyrie One, one of humankind's greatest warriors.

This will be Emily Blunt's second time-related sci-fi film, as she'll be appearing in Rian Johnson's "Looper" later this year. Signing on for "All You Need is Kill" also falls in line with Blunt's knack for appearing in "Twilight Zone"-ish sci-fi (such as "The Adjustment Bureau") and in movies with somewhat awkward titles (such as "Salmon Fishing in the Yemen").

It should also be noted that "All You Need is Kill" was for a while going by the working title of "We Mortals Are," which is somewhat awkward as well.

Emily Blunt will next be seen opposite her "Muppets" pal, Jason Segel, in "The Five-Year Engagement," opening April 27. Meanwhile, "Looper" will commence with making audience brains explode on Sept. 28.

"All You Need is Kill" will begin production later this year with a look toward joining the Summer 2013 lineup; however, as director Doug Liman ("The Bourne Identity," "Mr & Mrs. Smith") is known for taking his own sweet time on projects, a release date as early as next year might be wishful thinking.
