Mad Men Season 5, Episode 4 Fashion Secrets

Apr 9, 2012 @ 2:30 pm

True to the plot line, some extra effort went into the dinner wardrobe Joan Harris (Christina Hendricks) picked on last night’s new episode of Mad Men. “You can tell Joan was planning on what she was going to wear for weeks in anticipation of Greg’s homecoming,” the show’s costume designer Janie Bryant (inset) told InStyle.com of why she chose this slinky burgundy jacquard dress for Joan. “I wanted her costume to be sexy, and have that smoky, dark, deep quality.” It certainly was! Click through the gallery for Bryant’s take on more of last night’s looks, and catch the next episode of Mad Men Sunday, April 15th at 9/8c on AMC.

Mad Men Season Five Fashion: Secrets from the Set

Mar 26, 2012 @ 5:50 pm

A new season of Mad Men premiered last night, and we caught up with the show’s costume designer Janie Bryant to get the inside scoop on the fabulous retro fashions seen on the ladies of Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce. One of our favorite looks: the flirty pink dress Joan Harris (Christina Hendricks) wore on her first day back to the office. “That look is all about her feeling beautiful, showing the office that everything is going great, and having that façade of ‘life is fantastic,’” Bryant said of the original design. Click through the gallery for Bryant’s take on more of last night’s looks, and catch the next episode of Mad Men Sunday, April 1st at 9/8c on AMC.

Valentine’s Day Makeup Idea: Red and Pink Lips!

Nothing says Valentine’s Day like red and pink! But instead of changing into a bright dress tonight, swipe on a statement-making lipstick. Emma Watson paired shiny ruby lips with a retro cat eye, while Christina Hendricks chose a fluorescent cherry that bordered on orange. If a bright red is too much of a commitment, think pink. Opt for a glossy rose like Jennifer Hudson, or if you’re feeling adventurous, try a hot pink like Jenna Dewan. Both shades work best with natural-looking eye makeup, and are perfect for taking you from the office to date night!
