On Saturday, May 19th five Liverymen and Freemen formed up at St John Fisher School, Harrogate to take part in what is known as the ‘oldest open sporting event in the country’.
Wednesday 6 June 2012 saw the annual 'Joint Shoot' archery event in the East Moat of the Tower of London between the Bowyers' Company and the Fletchers' Company.
On 5th June, the livery masters of the City of London had the great honour of entertaining Her Majesty The Queen to luncheon at Westminster Hall.
The Worshipful Company of Bowyers installed their new Master, Mr Michael Wren, at St Botolph’s Church without Bishopsgate, on Wednesday July 18th . An impressive installation service, attended by the Lord Mayor, accompanied by trumpeters and a drummer not only saw the Master installed for two years. His Upper Warden is the Rev John Hayton, and Renter Warden Mr Antony Kench.
The Installation Ceremony was followed by a splendid choral Installation Service with the sermon delivered by the Rev. Dr Alan McCormack. Both reading and sermon were based on Ecclesiasticus 32:1 “If thou be made the master ….”. And indeed the new Master’s ability to rule over a feast was immediately put to the test with the luncheon that followed. Over sixty members of the Company plus guests enjoyed an excellent light luncheon accompanied by more than sufficient wine.
